spudchucker's report on JEFC:" Wow wow wow wow just about everything I could have hoped went right went right.. Started with Lovers (sung BEAUTIFULLY), a few songs later she sang To Where You Are in replacement of The Summer Knows (no more Jamaane) which was also incredible, and something I was reallly hoping to hear live one day. Her conductor (who's name escapes me at the moment) later got on the piano for an excellent Bohemian Rhapsody with the orchestra, which the crowd loved.
Last time I saw Jackie, I was in the nosebleeds and still managed to get a pretty heavy afterglow. This time I was give or take 20 feet away from her, and the effect is definitely a lot more powerful! I know the face she makes while emoting as well as any (since I've spent almost 60 hours studying it while drawing lol) and it is so much more powerful to see in person that the two are hard to even compare.. Her voice really is just one aspect of what makes "it" happen emotionally when she's singing, whatever "it" is
Speaking of her voice though, it just gets smoother and smoother.. Seriously, she has such grace now when she's singing. She always did before, but it's just different now somehow than it was in Boston in February, like it's grown into itself a lot more and flows more easily. Her body/arm movements seem to follow the same trend, everything is just smoother.
That's all for now, concert was incredible, Jackie did far better than anything I was expecting, and with songs I was hoping to hear that rarely get sung! "
bluesea's report on JEFC"Here are some words about tonights show.. Ive seen Jackie a few times and all I can say about tonight is OMG. It was 7.30 and some of us were in our seats excited for the show. Boom. The power goes of and we are in the dark, really dark.I lit a lighter and I could see nothing. We were like oh no, After about 15 minutes an announcement was made that power was down in all of Lewiston and if it came on shortly we will start. If not the show would be cancelled and they would issue refunds.. They stopped letting people in at that point. At one point we could see Jackie...she was sidestage peeking at at the crowd.. We were stunned thinking this will probably be canceled. after 15 minutes an announcement said power should be up in 30 minutes.sounded promising.15 minutes later Bang, the lights came on and everyone cheered. I was blessed to half front row pit tix right in front of Jackie so for her concert to cancel when we were already in our seats I would of been heartbroken.........So then we waited for Jackie and she came out glowing waving and smiling. I don't know order of setlist but 1st song was Lovers. . and she played" To where you are" my favorite which is rarely played .Her voice was perfection.. It was such an intimate setting that we could actually say something to Jackie and she would look at us and smile. With all the fan members cheering loudly and yelling her name she started looking like what we all loved about her in the beginning. She was giggling and doing a lot of waves and double waves. She seemed so happy to be here. We were cheering and joking with her.We had a sign that said (Jackie Rocks) with a picture from her guess ad and she smiled from ear to ear. I said umpa lupa umpa lupa after pure imagination and she looked and smiled.. This may be the first time she actually said to the crowd " You guys are making me laugh so much my face is twitching" what a moment that was. She saw some of her regulars and they all got lots of waves and smiles. For some reason tonight seemed to be extra special. Maybe because of the outage. Hanging with The fanclubbers who were there was great. especially when it was pitch black. seeing the kids from childrens hospital was great. They seemed happy to be there. Lots of cute smiles. It was heartwarming. Thanks to Kinder " Cynthia". she had beautiful buttons that she gave to the kids..Im sure someone will post the full setlist. All I know is to me? each song was mesmerizing...... The fan gathering and going out afterwards was very special also.I Met some great people and enjoyed visiting with old friends. Listening to Debra Crosby was nice . I could write a whole post of how great the dinner and after concert desert was.. Something special was after the concert at the restaurant Debra started singing Lean on me and then amazing grace and we all sang along...Like I said it was a special night ..I figured since Jackie is a kid and we were 5 feet from her we should do something goofy. Before she sang MOTN .she looked at us and we were wearing seal hats, yes, seal hats that my friend Josh brought. She actually laughed when she saw us.. such a treat. Tonight, between songs she reminded me of 10 year old Jackie , ....With all the fan members cheering loudly and yelling her name she was loving it. Smiling, Giggling, tons of waves and smiles. I could go on and on about tonight. Other than the power outage it was a fantastic night"
Terryg's report on JEFC:"After a night to think about it I have decided to give my thoughts about last nights concert. Bluesea has
already written an excellent review (scroll back to read it) so I will try to avoid repeating the same points
he has covered so well.
I am not one of those who tries to get to every Jackie concert. I hate what airline travel has become and
avoid it at all costs but even if she were performing very close by once a month I doubt I would go. I much
prefer that each concert seem something special.I say that only so that you know that the point I want to make
may have validity only in my own mind. It could well be that fans who have heard her perform more often may
have a different, and more accurate, view of things.
I am going to write only about her performance of "To Where You Are" and what I heard (or think I heard).
Last night, shortly after I got home, I pulled out PTAD to listen to that version of the song. The words were
the same and the tune and that's about it. This may be due in part to the improvement in her voice over the
last three years but there was much more. She let go of the way she had learned the song and took it where
she wanted it to go. The artistry was breathtaking.
If this is a sign of things to come I can hardly wait to hear more. I would not expect her to start making
big changes to how she performs The Lords Prayer or venture into scat singing like Ella Fitzgerald. But it
was a real treat to hear her take a piece of music and combine the quality of her voice with how she thought
the song ought to be performed and forget about how someone else had performed it.
Right now my only regret is that more of you were not there to hear what I did."
