Not sure how many people on the fan club know this, but Oct 16th, 2011 is an historical day to commemorate for several reasons. First and foremost, through the efforts of Alex Moss (aka Sempi Ternam)..., Oct 16th, 2011 was officially declared Jackie Evancho Day in the city of Pittsburgh. So, I thought it would be nice to recall this day in history since the one year anniversary is upon us. Unfortunately, I did not have M&G tickets for this event, but I was in attendance for the concert itself. Those who did have M&G were able to witness the presentation of the proclamation. Hats off to Alex for putting forth the effort to make this happen. You can read the full story behind this event at the link below:

On this date, Jackie Evancho had her first official homecoming concert after being on America's Got Talent the previous year. She performed a joint concert with the Pittsburgh Opera to a packed ncho-dayhouse at the Benedum Center for the Performing Arts.
This day also has a very special meaning to me because it was the first time I had attended a Jackie Evancho concert. I can still remember the day quite fondly. I almost missed out on going to this concert because I was still in my Jackie fan infancy stage. I had just started corresponding with fans on FB discussion forums that existed on Jackie's FB page. At the time I hadn't even considered the possibility of going to Jackie's Pittsburgh concert because I didn't think it would be possible. I had thought that I would be unable to get tickets to the concert - assuming masses of Pittsburgh natives would have obtained all the tickets (After-all, the concert was a sell-out). As I read various posts from fans who were lucky enough to be going to the concert, I thought that I would check the web for tickets just for kicks. Lo and behold, I found 2 tickets on Stubhub, but I didn't get them! I was unsure what my wife would think (she was in the dark at the time about my sudden Jackie fan involvement) , so I wasn't sure if she would be open to go to the concert with me. After-all, I had never gone to the extreme of driving over two hours just to see a concert. It was way out of character for me and I thought my wife might think I was cookoo. A few days later at the supper table, I casually asked my wife if she remembered Jackie Evancho on AGT. Knowing that Sweetest Day was coming up on the same weekend as Jackie's concert, I asked her if she would want to go see Jackie perform in Pittsburgh as it would be our special outing to celebrate the day. She said she really liked Jackie and that she would love to go. I was beside myself! What just happened here?! Now I HAD to get those tickets! I went to StubHub to see if the tickets were still there. They were not. Oh no..., now what? For the remaining week before Jackie's concert that was coming up on Sunday, I tried and tried to find tickets for the Pittsburgh concert, but I was coming up empty. I had just about given up. Literally on the Friday before the weekend of the concert, I made one last ditch effort to find tickets. There they were - two tickets had just came up on StubHub for the first-tier balcony. No hesitation this time, I purchased them at three times their normal face value and had them shipped overnight to my house. They arrived in the mail on that Saturday. The next day on Sunday, we were driving to Pittsburgh to see Jackie perform. I am so glad that I had the chance to see this concert. It was a day I will never forget!
I wrote a fairly extensive account of the whole experience on my blog if anyone is interested:

Now that it is a year later, I can't help but think back on that day and remember all the excitement that was going through me about going to this concert. It was such a whirlwind experience full of so many different emotions. I can remember sitting in the audience trying to hold it together while I was wiping away the tears in my eyes as I heard Jackie sing live for the first time. Hard to believe that a whole year has gone by already since that day.
