This was my first post on the Classical Crossover forum (or any other for that matter).
Little did I know when I put that first tentative toe in the water what it would lead me to.
Re:All Angels 1 Year, 8 Months ago
I just thought I would chip in with a middle-aged male widower's perspective.
I discovered All Angels last Autumn when looking on Amazon for Hayley Westenra and Katherine Jenkins - they kept popping up in the "Customers also bought..." section. So I thought I would just try "Into Paradise" as that was the more recent recording. As soon as I heard it, "All Angels" was on order the same evening. That turned out to be almost as good, although I prefer the greater maturity of the voices in the later recordings. It took me a while to warm to "Fly Away"; there were some fantastic solos and harmonies, but the "angelic" blend seemed to be missing. Now I love all three albums. The fact that they are four very attractive young ladies isn't what makes me like their music, but it is certainly a bonus!
I saw them in concert at Epsom recently and they were fantastic. There were songs from all three albums and some great new ones. Camilla Kerslake also sang brilliantly in her guest appearance. There was quite a cross section in the audience; male and female with a wide spread of ages, including a significant (but not overwhelming) number of teenage girls.
I think "Into Paradise" is my favourite album, and "Singing you through" has to be my favourite track at the moment, as it speaks to my emotional state.
Vocally, Daisy's voice stands out for me as the most expressive, but I think they are at their best when singing in harmony.
Visually... I'd better not say!
It feels like a whole chunk of my life is being cut away.
