San Antonio to open ultramodern Tobin Center for the Performing Arts
Allen Foster - AXS Contributor By: Allen Foster AXS Contributor Aug 24, 2014 On September 4, the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts will open to the public with a gala inaugural event. For the first time ever, The Ballet San Antonio, OPERA San Antonio, and members of San Antonio Symphony will perform together. The concert will take place in the 1750-seat H-E-B Performance Hall of the state-of-the-art facility. The festivities will continue through to October 1 when Paul McCartney will perform a benefit concert for the center. Recently, AXS.com talked to Katy Silva, Marketing Coordinator for the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts. “It’s going to be a really special evening,” Katy acknowledged. “Paul McCartney usually plays stadiums that are 25,000 seats and up and the Tobin Center is only approximately 1750 seats.” “We strive to have something for everyone,” Silva continued, “so our programming includes just about every genre of music as well as comedy, theater, dance, and musicals. We really like to get a little bit of everything. In addition to our more commercial programing, we have ten resident artist groups that we house here and they get first pick of scheduling for the year, so the symphony or the opera gets first choice of when they would want to hold their concerts.” Senior Marketing Manager, Christopher Novosad added that throughout September “we have nonstop concerts including Lynynrd Skynyrd, Jason Mraz, Bill Cosby, The Piano Guys, Charlie Daniels, Ringo Starr, Santana, Susan Boyle, Juanes, Loudon Wainwright III, Ian Anderson, Afrojack, etc. It all builds to the benefit concert with Paul McCartney on October 1st. Then we shift into our regular season with Erasure, Jackie Evancho, Don Williams, broadway shows, and more.” Read more here www.axs.com/san-antonio-to-open-ultramodern-tobin-center-for-the-performing-arts-17561
