Hi all!
I remember I started a Mirusia thread over at the old forum, so I thought I would start it again with a concert review! ;D
The official tour poster!
Just a little banner I made ;D
Those of you who are watchers of Andre Rieu would be familiar with the Australian singer. Mirusia is now taking a break from touring with Andre and is back in Australia with her solo tour ‘Home’.
I’m a big fan, so I was delighted when I saw she had scheduled two concerts within the Brisbane region. I last saw her perform in 2010 at the 12th Night Theatre, so I knew it was definitely worth it for me to go to both concerts!
I first noticed Mirusia when I rather naughtily decided to do a ‘pre-wrap watch’ of my mother’s Christmas present of an Andre Rieu DVD to see what all the media fuss was about. So whilst I attended to my other wrapping, the TV was filled with Andre and the Jonathan Strauss Orchestra for some fun and colourful waltz and schmaltz. Then suddenly, amongst everything, a young blonde singer from Brisbane appeared on stage singing ‘Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again’ and I was instantly hooked.
I’m very pleased that Mirusia is striking out on her own, as she has an incredible voice and stage manner and can carry a solo gig from start to finish with great aplomb. The breadth and depth of her capacity to perform is too great to be confined to a couple of songs a show.
The first concert of the tour was at the Redland Performing Arts Centre on 5 July 2012 to a sold out audience. The second was at the Brisbane Powerhouse.
In my opinion, the best songs of the night were Romanza, Solveig’s Leid, O Mio Babbino Caro, Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Forever Shine (an original piece by Mirusia).. During O Mio Babbino Caro, you could have heard a pin drop, as the audience were hanging on to every note! Both concerts ended with standing ovations.
A really nice touch was that Mirusia was set up with a hands free microphone, was allowed her a lot more movement and expression on stage.
Here is a video of Mirusia singing 'Romanza'

I have some more videos and I will post them when I've uploaded them.
The support act was Sam Moran, who some of you might know as the former 'Yellow Wiggle' from the Wiggles. He has a great voice and was a world away from children's entertainment when he sang Till I Hear You Sing from Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Love Never Dies'.
The songs Mirusia performed were:
1.Home
2. Summertime
3. Solveig’s Leid
4. Beautiful that Way
5. Love is a Gift
5. Rainbow Connection (by Sam Moran)
6. She’s Got a Way (by Sam Moran)
7. Ave Maria
8. Romanza
9. Somewhere.... Over the Rainbow
10. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
11. Life is Like a Boat
12. Botany Bay
13. O Mio Babbino Caro
14. God Only Knows (by Sam Moran)
15. Till I Hear You Sing (by Sam Moran)
16. All I Ask of You (with Sam Moran)
17. Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again
18. Forever Shine
Encores
19. I Still Call Australia Home
20. Look for Me in Rainbows
Here are some of my photos:
I was also very lucky to meet her afterwards! She is such a lovely person!
Cheers,
Jillian
