It was an absolutely wonderful evening - weather was perfect a Southern California Chamber of Commerce advertisement about 70 degrees low humidly blue skies in the early evening twilight. Almost Three hours of being a witness to Jackie following her dream.......

The Canadian Tenors opened the show with three songs which according to the sound tech's set sheet these were listed as pre-concert warm up songs, Not sure what that means - but we would think that means they won't be on the DVD. Not a big Deal we were all there to hear Jackie anyway!

More details on the songs the Tenors sang
1)Because We Believe - by Andrea Bocelli and David Foster
2)Hallelujah- by Leonard Cohen
3)Adagio- not sure but it may have been the Laura Fabian song.,,

Worth mentioning because these songs all could fit in Jackie's repertoire down the road.

One of the tenors was ill ( Remigio Pereira), so in fairness to them all I'll say is their versions were pleasant and received polite applause.

Before Jackie came out the filming director specifically asked the crowd not to clap until the end of the songs. We think this may have confused some of the crowd as we thought the applause for Jackie was somewhat reserved for the first four songs.

In fairness to all the songs - its hard to be the first song. Ever song sounds better than the previous! I do remember the first three songs got decent ovations but - no one was standing. The 4th song " What A Wonderful World " we thought was an amazing version - we gave her a standing ovation but were among the few standing?? Were we not supposed to??

Anyway the 5th song changed all that. " My Heart Will Go On" the Titanic song included a moving violin introduction and solo from Caroline Campbell( tours with Chris Botti ) . This song immediately blew the roof off the place with a rousing standing ovation from everyone! This seems to get the crowd going! I think almost every song from then on got standing ovations - even the retakes! People even started requesting retakes LOL! This was one of the re takes and got standing ovations both times!

The next song Theme from Summer of 42 featured a trumpet solo by Jumaane Smith( who tours with Michael Buble) as the intro. Another crowd pleaser, but the best was yet to come......

Jackie introduces the next song as one of her Disney favorites from the movie Tangled.. Jackie starts the song herself after the first part Jacob emerges from the background - half the crowd goes crazy the other half says who's he? ( we were in the PBS section mostly causal Jackie fans - not on any of the various sites) By the end of the song everyone gives them a rousing standing ovation and everyone remarks Jacob has a wonderful voice and they blend well together. The duet is beautiful! This one also requires a retake but no one minds.

Costume change into a smart dark tuxedo with pink trim and a white ruffle shirt. Cinema Paradiso and Music of the Night - both outstanding - these two songs easily could have been on the Dream With Me Album so anyone fretting about some " major change " should be pleased with at these two songs.

Change into another dress for the last three songs. " When I fall In Love" pleasant version receives moderate applause. Maybe the crowd is running out of energy? Next up is " Come What May" - the Tenors come out before the song starts so we all know it will be a duet. This one gets a rousing standing ovation the crowd is back in to it!

The final song is " Reflections" Jackie dedicated it" to my mom who allowed me to follow my dream...." Someone said they changed the lyrics?? But as I recall it seemed to be the same as what Christina Aguilar sang - there are other versions we'll have wait and see... Its a great version - a little slower tempo than Christina's version and makes for a great finale! Long extended Standing Ovations - even after a retake.


A wonderful evening! I hope they show some of the out takes on the DVD. That is something those who were not actually there will miss out on. Many fun and precious moments that should be shared with others. I'm looking forward to the DVD and CD plus PBS at least the Southern California affiliates indicated they should start showing it sometime in August. Stay tuned!

Before I share my thoughts with those who did not have the good fortune to attend the taping of the PBS Special I would like to apologize for my tardiness in doing so. Also, in light of the fact that a number of fans have already posted detailed reports-describing the event itself, I will, in essence, provide you with a "readers' Digest" version of my thoughts/opinions.

As this was my first "Jackie Live" experience, I was (needless to say) beside myself the whole night. My lovely bride (of almost 42 years) who appreciated Jackie -albeit not quite a Jackie Junkie, as I am- is closer to getting there.

I would say that of the 12 numbers she performed, she knocked my socks off with "What a Wonderful World" , "My Heart Will Go On", " The Summer Knows" (great trumpet accompaniment), "I See The Light" (surprise duet with her Bro, Jacob), "Theme from Cinema Paradiso", "Music of the Night", "Come What May" -with the Tenors (formerly Canadian Tenors) and "Reflection".

My least favorite was "When I Fall in Love". Not that Jackie didn't do an excellent job with it ....but , somehow, her voice does not seem to lend itself well to this bluesy melody (at least, not yet).

Although I don't have a previous live performance to compare her to, I am close to wearing out all of my CDs and DVDs and I find that her voice has become much richer(fuller)-especially towards the extremes of her register (probably due to maturation and increased lung capacity. As I shared in a prior post...."Just when you think she's as good as it gets- she gets better". I also find (IMO) that Jackie is more at ease performing and in her communication with the audience ....although, there were a number of awkward moments that presented themselves as a result of taping challenges. Not to worry- Jackie handled them utilizing her charm and innate ability to do/say the right thing at the right time.

To add the the evening enjoyment, we got to see (and experience) the inner workings of a live taping and the "piece de resistance"- the retaping of four numbers. How lucky were we.....getting to spend almost two and a half hours with Jackie!!

I also felt that the (raised) semi-circular proscenium stage that was constructed for this event really heightened Jackie's contact with the audience and they with her.

Bottom line-One of the most enjoyable evenings of my life. My wife and I plan to be seeing a lot more of her.

Just got home from an 1100 mile round trip drive to See the PBS concert. Looks like I am a little late to the game as there are numerous revues of the concert up already and I would just be repeating whats already been said. So I would like to thank Ian for putting the fan gathering together it was really nice to meet the folks from the fan site. There were so many there I didn't get to meet everyone and can only remember half of the names of the people I did meet. Would like to say thanks to Frank for the buttons the Girl that talked me out of one of the buttons you gave me is the one photographed in the pine richland article Thanks for the second one to replace it. If anyone on the fansite is like me and had doubts about the new album songlist after falling in love with DWM. I can say that you should set your worries aside This new album is going to be great and Jackie even with different types of songs is still the Jackie we Love to listen to over and over again.

Hi All!

I thought this particular event was a perfect bridge for my return to JEFC. Although I use the excuse of increased business activity, there really is no excuse for not engaging regularly folks with whom I share a kindred treasure. I must admit that I needed an injection of renewed enthusiasm for Jackie and her surreal talent. I can unequivocally say last evening’s event has lifted me to a new level of appreciation. Jackie will set a benchmark that many will aspire to but few will achieve inthe 21st century.

Ok then, I replied to Tony’s posting so my chronology stays somewhat intact. An appreciative kudosto all those who reviewed the show and kept track of the sequence of events sowell.

I’ve had the privilege to attend 4 shows now out here on the West Coast. I also attended the AGT finals last year and the Christmas Show at The Grove. All were wonderfulexperiences and each wholly unique as Jackie herself.

I was perplexed when I heard the song list and theme of the show. Show tunes? Jackie Evancho singing engaging but somewhat vocally limited musical standards? Even with my reservations, I figured team Evancho would find a way to weave straw into gold. Did they ever!

It was total déjà vu for me. I was transported back to a time before AGT. Before I had any grasp of how beautiful classical, CC, and operatic arias could be. Never having really paid attention to the genres until that one special day when I heard a little 8 year old singing O Mio Babbino Caro in a bedroom, a' capella on You Tube.

I felt magic in the air and magic is what transpired during this show. It was Jackie once again creating an emotional tension that is difficult to describe other than feeling on the verge of tears from the opening to the final piece. A feeling inside the chest that without an etiology might have alarmed me.

I admit bias in favor of whatever Jackie does but within myselfI do try to keep it objective knowing we are all human and thus will make mistakes. I’ve long since past the point of incorporating Jackie’s age into the equation. As has been stated many times, Jackie is a stellar entertainer who just happens to be a child (err young lady).

Sorry about the tangents. This show was my formal introduction to the Canadian Tenors. I’ve read here that they were ok. I for one really enjoyed each piece they performed with the highlight being “Come What May” with Jackie as lead vocal. A superb number that once again, showed Jackie’s ability to interweave her melodic timbre seamlessly as any I’ve seen. When Jackie sings with anyone, it’s readily apparent how deeply her gift runs.

So now we come to “Imagination” from the Willy Wonka movie. I watched Gene Wilder sing/speak it in the movie. What could Jackie do with apiece like this? What she did was inject it with her unique musical interpretation. Thus far, IMO every interpretation she has done passes the original in beauty and appeal. Yes, I am bias but entitled to an opinion. Loved it!

“Can You Feel The Love Tonight” from the Lion King transported me back to when my children were younger and we saw the performance in LA. Once again, beautiful song with somewhat difficult timing changes that were spot on. I often scratch my head thinking how the heck she does that.

By this time in the show, the audience was well aware of the fact this was not an ordinary concert. It was a made for TV/DVD show that required retakes, including Jackie reading from a teleprompter. Much as the scripted portions of DWM. Watching this whole process was a delight. The off camera interaction between Jackie and her audience most likely captured a few new fans. Sorry to disappoint her critics but this young lady is neither a flash in the pan or an age centric entertainer. She’s here for the long run and detractors will be put in their respective places as necessary.

“Some Enchanted Evening” oh my. As I listened to this piece a brief moment of melancholy washed over me knowing that she is growing up very quickly and there will be a loss of sorts. That was soon followed by the excitement of what the future will bring. I believe after this tune she received standing ovations the rest of the evening. Well-deserved I might add. The energy and excitement among everyone there resonated. The film crew, orchestra and band included. Which reminds me…Jackie had I believe a 5 piece band on stage as well. Keyboard, guitar,bass, drums, and effects. Interestingly, the Maestro stood directly in front of the band VS the orchestra which sat in the opposite corner. Jackie is becoming quite adept at taking cues as her timing was once again spot on.

So now we came to the venerable “It’s a Wonderful World”. Again, I wondered how she could turn this piece into her own. Honestly, although the song is beautiful and Jackie sang it with aplomb, the vocal range needed was narrow and didn’t allow Jackie to really SING. I’ve got to get used to the fact there will be tunes where her vocal range will not travel octaves. I’m greedy though. Her voice will always shine brightest when it can traverse the scales with impudence.

“My Heart Will Go On” was done superbly as interpreted by Jackie. Some will argue Celine’s version had more depth or what not. Ridiculous. Celine is a 30 year musical superstar who the song was written for (I think).The version that Jackie put out on this special evening was every bit as engaging. If you’re a true fan of Jackie’s style then it most likely hit you deeper than any other rendition.

“The Summer Knows” was a tune I’ve never heard before….possibly can’t remember. This was one of the director’s retakes. It involved a rather loud trumpet by an obviously talented professional. I loved the song and this version will be the standard for me.

“I See The Light” was another tune I had heard somewhere along time ago. I thoroughly enjoyed this song. When Jacob appeared looking as dapper as I’ve ever seen him I knew it would be a special moment. Indeed it was among the evening highlights. The emotional impact was significant as well. I kept thinking this is what it’s all about. This is life in the most positive terms. Kudos to both for a memory that will not soon fade.

“Cinema Paradiso, Love Theme” was one of my favorites that evening. Extraordinary performance of an almost classical piece that shook the rafters. For those who missed the show, this is quintessential Jackie material.I loved it.

Now my favorite of the evening. “Music of the Night” from Phantom of course was extraordinary. Think The Dark Waltz and you can get a feel for where this piece took you. Quite simply the best interpretation ofthis song I’ve ever heard. Male or female.

“When I Fall In Love” was another incredible interpretation. I’m running out of adjectives but this number received a rousing standing 'O'. I noticed crew members shaking their heads dumbfounded by what they were witnessing. I’d like to think so anyway.

“Come What May” as noted above was entertainment personified. Money just can’t buy these moments. Well perhaps it can but it wouldn’t be cheap. Excellent job by the Tenors and Jackie.

Finally, “Reflection”. Wow is all I can think of. When the director asked for a second take I was thinking, “Sure, I’d love to hear that again". Personally, I could not tell the difference between takes. If she had to do it again I wouldn’t have minded.

To sum it up, this evening was as memorable as any I’ve experienced. Whenever I attend one of Jackie’s shows, I tell myself there is no way she’s going to top this one. About 2 shows ago I stopped that line of logic. During the evening I was enraptured, inspired, laughing, crying, floating, remembering, hoping, and overall just glad to be alive.

My sincere appreciation to everyone involved with the show, including venue staff. So that’s it. I had a great time meeting new fans and visiting with folks I already knew. What a great bunch of people. Thank-you Steve for everything and I was happy to hear you made your flight!!

My little review on JEFC:

“Houston!, no… we DON’T have a problem… we want to stay forever right here… right where Jackie sent us…”

This is what I was able to quickly get out to facebook immediately after the taping ended, AND is in a nutshell how the evening felt to me. It was an adventure of epic proportions that faithfully continued to create the legendary and unique “Jackie Experience”

This amazing experience started not so amazing for me. I had to battle extra heavy LA traffic coming in. Not quite sure why, but it was actually heavier than morning rush hour. I wanted to be the first at the Umami just in case of anything. However by the time I made it there were about 10 fans already waiting. By the time everyone showed up we counted 33 fans. Bobby showed up last, so I guess we did make it to 34 total. It was great meeting so many of the fans that normally we only interact online with. Photos were taken so I’m sure some of them will show up somewhere. We had a great meal and even though they did take longer than we would have liked, they did split the check into smaller groups so that made it easy to settle “the bill”. It all went very well.

We’ve had multiple detailed descriptions of how the song sequence went, so let me focus instead on side observations.

Something that I really liked was how supportive the audience was. There must have been around 40-45 (not everyone made it to dinner) total of those of us rather vocal fans but it wasn’t just us offering encouragement to Jackie. It was the whole audience. During one part early on she was asked to re-read the tele-prompt. She messed it up 3 times and became more and more apologetic with each time, perhaps getting a bit nervous. The stage manager very calmly directed her to take her time and just redo it, and after the third time the audience just exploded in strong clapping of support. That seemed to truly energize Jackie, she quickly got through the part, and equally important, she realized her audience loved and supported her completely. She did not feel the need to apologize for any future minor mistakes any longer, and was very comfortable on stage, not only being cute but even a little goofy at times during the breaks in the takes/songs. Those “Precious Moments” alone were worth the price of admission! For example, before “My Heart Will Go On” while waiting on stage for Caroline Campbell to get herself set up, she gestured as if she was playing the violin, to which we all laughed.

At another point during a break the hair stylist came up to fix her hair and the stage manager came up with a bottle of water and a straw for Jackie to drink. Both were between Jackie and the audience. Jackie seemed to be eagerly drinking water, so the stage manager turned around and said “she IS a drinker” another laugh from us.

Later Jackie dedicated a song to Lisa, she said that she thanked her mom for allowing her to be who she wanted to be, or something to that effect. And one thing is for sure, Jackie was having loads of fun being who she wants to be.

The duet between Jackie and Jake was absolutely phenomenal and their voices blended very well together, and we could see how proud Jackie was to be accompanied by her beloved brother. As she said, “the best big brother she could ever ask for!” We the fans know that Jake has played a crucial role behind the scenes in Jackie’s career. So we were beyond happy to see him take the stage once more, and share the limelight along Jackie while delighting us with his also amazing voice. He seemed a lot more confident than at Indio, and his voice also has become stronger and richer. What a pleasant surprise that was! NONE of us saw that one coming!!

I want to thank Mike E. for giving the fans an opportunity to participate in this event. In reality it was 2 entities in one. One was a magnificent and spectacular concert, which even had the kicker of having some songs performed twice. The other was an insight into the world and mind of Jackie the young lady. As we all know Jackie the performer is an absolute consummate professional, but in most instances live we only get short glimpses of Jackie the “average kid”. At this particular event however, we had Multiple Extended Live windows into “the other side of Jackie” A wonderful young lady that is clearly -have no doubt anyone- having a total blast every step of the way!

PBS was conducting fan interviews at random both before and after the taping. I know for sure both Joe Duerr and Joe Merkt got interviewed so hopefully they’ll get included in a “behind the scenes” part of the DVD.

Jackie is like a permanently shining comet traveling across the cosmos, and we her fans are somehow riding in that brilliant tail of serenity, delight and joy that trails behind her everywhere her and her voice go! And what an amazing journey it is!!!

ok, trying this again...There are so many wonderful descriptions of the show that I'll try to approach a "review" from a different angle. When I got home at about 4:30am, I was contacted by a friend that loves Jackie's music, seen her twice, but couldn't attend (and isn't in JEFC). This thread holds my first thoughts and attempts to describe the event. Please pardon any grammatical or even factual errors, as it was a LOONG drive home and very early in the morning. So here goes...

Dan: Concert was great. 15 songs. The twelve we knew about, and she had to do 3 of them a 2nd time. One was a duet with Jacob, who must have been hanging around Josh Page alot. Now he sounds REALLY good, and has cleaned up nicely, too. It’s great seeing retakes – we don’t have that luxury at HP, because most of the broacasts are live (UFC, Sharks, NCAA). Canadian Tenors did 3 songs to start the show, which probably won't be part of the broadcast, and also sang Come What May with JE. There were only 3 of them - one was sick. Jackie was a riot, especially reading from the teleprompter. Several takes, but good acting. Still the happiest girl on earth. Still don’t know how she’s able to be so effervescent and immediately jump into character when the music starts. Stage mgr was excellent – kept the audience informed and did it with humor.

Dan: I think it's time for bed. Did I say the show was GREAT?

Question: it better be for as much time and money you put into it
Dan: $110 in gas, $15 for dinner, $73 for the ticket, seeing JE sing 15 complete songs - priceless. Seeing Jacob sing with her twice - double priceless. Seeing Jackie sing with and separately with each of the Canadian Tenors - triple priceless.

Question: how were the seats? and the staging was different than a concert show because of the taping

Dan: Seat was perfect. about as close as SF, because the rows were so narrow.

Question: so multiple cameras to get in the way

Dan: yes, stage was different., but there were NO cameras in the way. Really handled well. Production was the A-TEAM all the way. Cameras in the audience at the far left & right DSE in the house, jib camera behind the scenery, hand held camera(s) behind the orchestra for close ups of the band members. One jib camera house left, but it was overhead for me, one hand held camera sometimes brought to the foot of the stage moving in a semicircle to get close ups of JE. There was a stationary camera with teleprompter below it dead center a few rows behind me, and probably a camera or two in the upper level, stage right, although I couldn't see any from my vantage point.

Dan: The artist stage she was on wasn't more than a 18” above the rest of the stage. Stage left had a contemporary band (bass & electric guitar, rock style drum set, keyboardists). Stage right had the symphony type musicians (violins, cellos, harp, etc). Mostly both bands played at the same time. The conductor was at the far DSE left with the contemporary musicians, and JE had to turn (occasionally) to watch him for timing issues.

Question: so you were pretty close

Dan: yes, just as close as SF, maybe 1-2 ft further away. JE’s artist stage was rounded and all the way forward, so maybe she just seemed as close. 11th row, just off center enough to have a full, unobstructed view of the entire stage.

Dan: There were people I met who flew in from Nashville, Baltimore, northern Michigan and Dallas for the show. A couple people drove from Phoenix. The fan club member next to me drove from Reno. You'd like JEFC.

Question: what do you prefer - the classical or movie songs?

Dan: well, as you know it's her voice (tone, diction, clarity) that gets to me. Moves my heart, my soul, makes my eyes flow. I think right now, two of my favorites from DWM are Nella Fantasia and Imaginer.

Dan: From this show, all the songs were "Jackified", or "Evanchoed", take your pick, which is one reason she's in a class by herself – she owns whatever she sings and makes the music unique. But my favorites (so far) were The Summer Knows from Summer of 42 (Jumaane Smith on trumpet), Cinema Paradiso (maybe because it's in Italian), Come What May from Moulin Rouge, Reflection from Mulan, I see the Light from Tangled (Jacob was great singing with her) and of course My Heart Will Go On from Titanic (maybe the best of the bunch because of violinist Caroline Campbell). Of course you know I have new favorites every couple of weeks. I mean, really, it's like trying to decide which color of M&M's is best.

Dan: I was not as fond of Music of the Night from Phantom, another song that is normally sung by men, like Nessum Dorma. I'll need to spend a few days listening to THAT one when it comes out. Also, When I Fall in Love seemed somewhat ordinary (and dated), and just doesn't seem to fit her (yet). Reminded me of Memory: Jackie in character as an old cat, at the end of life, even though it was a great song sung beautifully. But really, both songs were excellent.

Dan: Pure Imagination (the first song) seemed completely retooled for JE. Much, much better than the movie version.

Since I began this thread, I suppose I should also post my commentary, lightly edited, which I wrote for the JEFC:

Greetings, Everyone!

I realize that so far I'm the proverbial "day late and a dollar short", so will merely add to the previous comments rather than attempt to recapitulate the whole thing; also, I'll add a few of my own travel experiences. My flight arrived at LAX Tuesday afternoon, and after securing my rental car and locating and checking into my hotel, I decided to head Downtown, some 15 - 20 miles away to "scope things out" for the following day. After bucking the truly awful L.A. freeway snarls, I arrived almost an hour later; fortunately by then, street parking was possible so I parked and walked around the block containing both the Orpheum and Umami, and located the nearest parking lot, just around the corner. I felt I was as prepared as possible, but you may remember from my previous posts - I STILL DIDN'T HAVE A TICKET!

Next day things continued to progress, though in the morning I learned there were no more available slots for the tour of Paramount Studios, so I made a reservation for the following day. I consoled myself by visiting instead the wonderful Page Museum of Ice Age fossils recovered from the famous La Brea Tar Pits! ( Wonder if Jackie would like this - or would she feel sad for the deaths and extinction of so many animals? ) As it approached 4PM, I headed towards downtown, arriving in plenty of time for the get-together at Umami. Though this was my first time as part of the group, I was made welcome by others who I "recognized" from the several forums, sharing an end of the long table with MrS.G., Luc4, Trancas and his uncle, and others; also, I "collected" 3 lovely Jackie buttons. But still there was the nagging worry about having NO ticket, so as soon as the Orpheum gate was lifted, I was there to see if things had been taken care of as promised - to my tremendous relief, a ticket with my name on it was waiting!

Since there are by now several very full "reviews", I'll only add a few observations. The Canadian Tenors performed first, as has been described, but I was struck by a comment from one of them that they had first seen her on a talent show when she was only nine and were already impressed. I could only wonder if, in their wildest imaginations, any of them thought someday this soon THEY would be the "warm up" act for HER? Having only previously attended Jackie's Dallas concert ten months ago, I too was struck with her level of improvement, particularly in stage presence. No longer does she look constantly over one shoulder for approval, like on the DWMIC DVD; her hair was properly styled so as not to cover her face; and she's no longer rooted in place by a stand mike. ( Though she didn't move about very much - no doubt keeping carefully "on her mark" for filming. ) She's also learned, perhaps TOO well, how to "play" her audience with her trademark hops, twirls, giggles, etc. that sometimes seemed mainly "for effect", though it's certainly possible that by doing these things she was being considerate and trying to keep US amused during the frequent pauses and breaks for technical purposes.

Vocally, of course she was terrific; like so many others here, my own personal favorites were My Heart Will Go On and Music of the Night, though I thought possibly the Cinema Paradiso Love Theme was the most satisfyingly "Classical"-sounding. I hope at least part of her first duet with Jake is salvageable because their obvious and infectious enthusiasm for each other was somewhat tempered and stiff when they had to repeat it, especially towards the end. By the last number, I thought I could tell Jackie was feeling that it was by now approaching 11PM - 2AM Eastern Time and surely WAY past her bedtime! ( Or was it just ME who was tired? ) The final retake was probably occasioned by very obvious audio feedback/static at the beginning of Reflection. I think this was a GOOD thing, because Jackie suddenly perked up and was more animated the second time, which lasted through the thunderous SO which brought her back for her bows. As we left the auditorium, the stage manager thanked us in Jackie's name for our participation and appreciation; on the way out I broke down and added one of the NEW T-shirts to my collection of things Jackie.

The rest of my trip was somewhat uneventful, especially by comparison, the highlight being the aforementioned Paramount Tour. After a quick visit to Venice Beach Friday morning ( not too pleasant in the windy, overcast "June Gloom" with temperatures in the 60's ), the rest of the day was devoted to the foolishness attendant to any filght; I collapsed in my bed around midnight and have spent today "catching up". I would like to thank the other members of the JEFC who made me feel welcome, and to all those who put this once-in-a-lifetime event together and allowed us to participate in it!

I am looking forward to when I can sit down and share with you my multi-sensory experience of Jackie's PBS taping. I loved every minute of it. I am still on my way home. Given my very rural residence in northern Michigan it is taking a while before I can thoughtfully share my impressions. Thank you for your patience. I hope by the time I do write that it won't be old news. I'll share some vignettes of human interest from my own perspective.

I'm finally home now after a rather harrowing 7 hour drive north from Chicago. I flew in from LA last night.

My mind is swimming with sounds, emotions and images from the "Songs of the Movies" spectacular. I will start with the piece "My Heart Will Go On" from "Titanic".

Never have I witnessed anything like this before. Who ever thought of placing these two artists together was a genius. Words seem inadequate to transmit what I experienced during this unique and complex duet between Jackie and Caroline Campbell on the violin. For me, Jackie and Caroline were intertwined blending song, instrument and modern dance in powerful passion that was like charged electricity leaping between them. Caroline mirrored the sound coming from her instrument with movement from her body as she played. It was as though she was "signing" for the deaf with dance. Added to this was the passion of Jackie's interpretation of the music. This duet is something that must be seen AND heard to be experienced. I can't wait to have it on DVD so I can revisit one of most unusual compositions of melody and dance in my memory.

About the stage: I am not sure of the correct name for the type of stage upon which Jackie sang. The shape of it was unusual. Instead of a straight front edge to it there was an additional large round surface centrally placed and connected to the stage proper. This addition required Jackie to take a couple steps up and then walk forward, placing her on a sort of secondary circular stage approximately 8-10 feet in diameter.

This not only brought Jackie closer to the audience giving us a more intimate orientation to her, it also added height to her stature with out the appearance of her standing on a box. She was able to freely turn to face the audience from side to side on this sort of mini-stage as she performed. Pretty ingenious. Our Angel still looked tiny but she was aforded a surface upon which to perform that enhanced her presence I thought.

A lingering image of iridescence:

I will always remember the beauty of the stage the moment Jackie first entered. Lighting enhanced the color of pale lilac reflected by tall columns of drapery and other set pieces reflecting pillars of tall parallel lines several stories high. Best of all there was a backdrop of black material pierced with hundreds of holes through which shone pin points of light just like a sky full of stars reaching from top to bottom at the back of the stage.

Then Jackie entered with her long hair in soft curls and wearing a floor length gown gathered at the waist as we've seen so many times before. The skirt seemed to have several sheer layers with glittering sequined small flowers attached to glittering fabric that shimmered as she made the slightest movement. I was in the 7th row and felt enveloped in the scene like I was part of what what was happening on stage. It was a magical moment for me. Jackie was radiant. And I was there at last for a live performance.

It is nearly 72 hours now since that night at the Orpheum and my memories are fading fast. I am trying to hold them tight but they are slipping away like helium baloons on a windy day.

Treasures of my heart:

"When I fall in love, it will be forever..." was tenderly sung and especially poignant for me. I think Jackie felt and meant every word of that song. There she stood, so young, so lovely against that star studded sky in a pink dress with soft curls around her face. I wondered who that special someone would be. I hoped that when love comes to Jackie there would be more joy than heartache. And my wish is that the words penned in the last stanza of the tribute by BGstar in the thread "Jackie did you know...?" would come true.

Another tender moment during the concert:

When it finally dawned on me who was that smartly dressed little man waiting at the back of the stage for his cue to enter during "I See the Light" from "Tangled" I fell into disbelief. It was so unexpected. That young face was familiar. Was that really Jacob? Yes it is!! I simply loved that he was performing this song with his sister. They sang into each others' eyes and the affection between them was palpable as the lyrics spoke of finding themselves in the right place at the right time to have met. Jacob's voice has become richer and blended so beautifully with Jackie's as siblings singing together often do. At the end they were slightly out of synch so we got to hear it all again!! What a treat!! Second time through it was right on. I hope their singing together happens again. I'll bet it will. I can only imagine how Lisa and Mike E. must have had hearts burtsing with love and pride for these two children at such a precious moment in each of their lives.

And here are a couple more taken inside Umami's before everyone arrived.  I'm in the foreground at the right and I can see mrsg (Steven Groshans) in the middle distance at left in the second one.  PJ Towncrier is seated at the far end on the left side of the table.  We were soon joined on our end of the table by Charles (Trancas) and his uncle and LUC4.  I'm sorry if I've failed to identify/recognize anyone else here!
