People are very unlikely to vote when they don't see the point. I'm not voting. I don't see what the artists will get from it.
On this site, it was obvious. People came to this FOR classical crossover music - and the chart showed who was most popular, and therefore, who was worth checking out - this would have interested every single visitor - it's why they clicked on the website in the first place. But this poll is on a tourism website. Who will visit a tourism website to find out about popular classical crossover artists? It has absolutely no connection.
The only benefit I see is if the fan bases voting would check out the competition and see if there is anybody they like. But I don't need to vote for that benefit to arise.

This is the "incredible trophy" I have voted for Sissel, Filippa, Giorgia, Patricia and Mariette *, but I cannot raise the enthusiasm that I had for voting on the CC site. * oh! and Mario

I have one other comment on the Europe Tourism Board. I am sad to see that Patricia Janeckova and Sissel's fans are not following them to the website. Both of these artists were so very popular on this site. If their fans would start voting for them, Tarja Turunen would not be the first to achieve 5000 votes. I am not a member of FaceBook. If you are a fan of Sissel could you post a message on her page. I guess that's how it is done, I'm not quite sure how artist's FaceBook pages work. 'Bogi' has created a website for Patricia. Are you not in favor of Patricia getting votes on the Europe Tourism Board website? Does Sissel have a fan club elsewhere? Could someone who posts on her fan club site post a message and ask her fans to support her? These two ladies deserve to be in the the #1 and #2 places amongst the female performers. It is quite amazing the difference in interpretation and personal taste on this forum (and long may it continue - within reason . From my own angle I, as yet, do not class Patricia as being a crossover artist. I have her album and love it, but treat it as more Classical alone. Contrariwise I class Tarja's solo albums as being Crossover (with a sprinkling of Symphonic Rock), whereas many others do not! Vive Le Difference!!!! I too would love to know how they came about this 'list' of CC artists. My personal choice for the top two? Giorgia Fumanti and Tarja. But I have no intention of voting. I do not class this as serious, it's just a bit of fun (but I'm grumpy and not sleeping well ;D).

Adam already announced, that some new voting system will be prepared this year: classicalcrossover.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=webcontent&thread=158&page=1#928If that will happen, it will be created on the right site, right people will be behind it and I'm sure that purpose and rules of voting will be known from the beginning. I know here are more meanings about Patricia's genre. Her Talentmania performances, like Time To Say Goodbye, Once Upon A Time In The West and the Phantom Of The Opera performance, can be surely considered as CC. Her debut album was arranged to be purely classical. But the album arrangement, cover and booklet didn't change Patricia's voice and appeal. If some real opera singer would sing on the same album instead of Patricia, it wouldn't be so successful in Slovakia. So the question is, what defines the singer's genre: arrangement, or the singing itself? I mean that's very interesting question. We have topic for that and I published my own article on this topic, we can discuss it here: classicalcrossover.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=pjaneckova&action=display&thread=166

Rumors abound! A real trophy may be awarded to the winner and a fan may be involved. It will not be someone picked by the Europe Tourism Board, perhaps random. It's only rumors! I am not on FaceBook but I get messages with the rumors. But if it were true, someone's dreams would come true!!

For those of you not accessing the site, Mario is in 1st place with 20,000+ votes, followed closely by Tarja Turunen, and Micheal Castaldo is in third place, followed by Amaury Vasilli and Patricia Kaas is in fourth place. A Spanish tenor named Cesar Mesa is very popular. Giorgia Fumanti, Vittorio Grigolo and Helmut Lotti are doing well. I am not at all familiar with the aritsts from Bosnia, Malta, Poland and Turkey. I have learned that it was the intention to pick an artist to represent each country. There is no one from Ireland or Scotland or Wales. Who would you suggest I recommend they add from these countries? It has to be an individual not a group. I shall have to read over Nicola's bio's and find someone. On memory alone, the only person on this site that I remember being Welsh is Wynne Evans. There are many Irish groups but I don't know of one individual except Paul Byrom. I know there must be many others.

Oh, there are plenty of Welsh singers. Apart from Wynne, we have Aled Jones, Annelies, Bruce Anderson, Charlotte Church, Rhydian, Samantha Link, even Siobhan Owen would qualify as she was born in Wales. But the one I think would gain the greatest following is Katherine Jenkins. I have already suggested her to Kenneth, who I think has some influence in the poll's set up. But Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are not separate countries within the European Union; they are part of the UK together with England. As their definition of Crossover appears to be rather loose, perhaps for Ireland they could include one of the members (or ex-members) of Celtic Woman. Chloe Agnew has released solo albums with some classical content.

Jonas Kaufmann is not doing crossover, he is an opera singer. Yeah, many of them aren't crossover. :/ I was going to reply something similar to John's post. LOADS of Welsh artists. The only Scottish one that springs to mind (though there's probably more) is Nicky Spence (not profiled). Was signed some years back to Universal - don't know what he is doing now.

Wales is frequently described as "The Land of Song" and, as John says, there are many, many Welsh Singers - and for opera look at Bryn Terfel. The Wesh Male Voice Choirs are also known world-wide. Until Sunday a Songs of Praise about exactly that, Welsh Voices, can be seen on www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01d5rm2/Songs_of_Praise_Welsh_Voices/

On the day before St. Patrick's Day, Paul Byrom has been added to the 'Best Crossovesr Performer' contest. I don't know if the timing was intentional.

Since it's a race to 100K, isn't it a bit unfair to the newcomers that eveyone has had a head start?

There hss been no Adam Tilley to police the 'Best Crossover Performer' contest on the Europe Tourism Board. Not only have I been told but a video is now on YouTube explaining that the fans are restarting their modems to do multiple voting. I apologize if this isn't absolutely technically correct, because I don't have the computer knowledge to understand all this. Suffice to say, there is an extreme amount of multiple voting being done. If no one monitors a contest, it's human nature that over zealous fans ( I would love to call them more than that) will cheat. The contest then becomes a farce! I feel very badly for the artists whose fans are voting legitimately. I think the artists should withdraw from the competition. One's name shouldn't be associated with something that is totally dishonest.

The so-called contest ended yesterday, thank goodness. Tarja got 100,000 votes.
