Just a quick reminder of who (in my mind) rules the roost!

Easy to see why Sarah is dubbed Queen of Classical Crossover. I would not challenge a claim that she is Soprano Queen of all genre including opera. What other soprano can claim to be even close to Sarah's impressive performance record.

Grapevine has it that Sarah is releasing a new album in the summer of 2012!
Frank Peterson is also still the producer, I am relieved to say. <3 <3 <3

It would be interesting to know how much new material will contain the new album.

Nicola, If you ever consider a 'Lifetime Achievement Award' to be awarded every year, I think Sarah should be given the first award. She is and always will be considered the beginning of the classical crossover genre.

Nicola, You mentioned a CD by Sarah titled Surrender. I couldn't believe I had not heard of it. I just went to Amazon.co.uk and ordered it, only about 5 left in stock. I see the release date, 1995. I don't think I knew who Sarah was at that time. I learned of her when 'Time to Say Goodbye' was released. I didn't check but I think that was around 1997 or 1998. But I am so surprised I have never seen the CD listed on Amazon. I thought I had all of Sarah's albums. Thanks so much for mentioning it. Sarah has always been my favorite.

You probably don't have access to it right now, but on Sarah's profile there is an article titled 'Guide to Sarah's discography' - it is about a year out of date - so is missing a few compilations, but it's pretty conprehensive. Check it out when it comes back up. <3
The Editor's Choice is a little like that, Bonnie, except it only goes to active artists in that year. If Sarah does release an album next year I imagine she will make a clean sweep on our annual awards!

I knew about Sarah from her marriage to Andrew Lloyd Webber and her involvement in his musicals. The music on Surrender is from that era. I never knew anything about her subsequent career until I found her on Nicola's website.

That is typical of people in the UK. They have no idea what she has gone on to do. Surrender isn't really from her musical era. It was after she released 'Dive' with Frank Peterson, which I call her 'Nemo Years'. Surrender was actually a reunion of Sarah and Andrew - it's not a compilation album but all recorded specifically by them both to create a new album. Andrew produced/arranged for it and Sarah sung (obviously). ANY OTHER ALW/Sarah album IS a compilation album from old recordings. Which is why Surrender is the one to get in my opinion.

Sarah has recorded 'Frozen' for her new album (most likely a Madonna cover).
I can't confirm if it will be on the album or not as many songs are recorded but are left out of the final tracklist.

On Sarah's album 'Surrender', Andrew Lloyd Weber made mention of the fact that when he met Sarah in 1980, he saw potential in her voice. Listening to her early '80's recordings, you can defintiley hear Sarah's voice is not what it became in later years. His narrative on her singing 'Pie Jesu' is that he finds it interesting how Sarah's voice has changed over the past decasde. The song was recorded in 1985. I remember watching a concert of Sarah's on PBS. It was the first she recorded after she finished Phantom of the Opera. She spoke very candidly about the need to improve her voice and maintain it properly. She talked about her vocal lessons and about her complete training in breathing technique to relieve the stain on her vocal chords. I think her recognition of the necessity of continuing her vocal training made her the soprano we came to love in the years after the Phantom.

In Paris, France, a little over a week ago: "Global recording artist Sarah Brightman designated UNESCO Artist for Peace" www.unesco.org/new/en/communication-and-information/resources/news-and-in-focus-articles/all-news/news/global_recording_artist_sarah_brightman_designated_unesco_artist_for_peace/back/18618/See her UNESCO bio for more re classical crossover background. The related info link on the right-hand side of the above article has additional on her activities with Panasonic and preservation of world heritage sites. I believe she has been Panasonic's ambassador since 2010. Check out the list of past and present "Artists for Peace". This is a very nice honor. (Perhaps a little extra trophy for this or at least a CC-UK front page flash?) Note in the article that her CD, as of earlier this month, is due out early 2013. Current PR person (new?) listed at bottom of article is located in Los Angeles. Perhaps we will be seeing more news about Sarah...

She is apparently signed on with Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic space venture and had already done so by the time he opened his spaceport: news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8400353.stm
