Here are my photos of the main building (called the Virginia House) at the event. It dates back to the late 1800's and was once a hotel for the health spa here at Orkney Springs, but the first floor is now used as space for the lobby (pictured), offices, a gift shop, and a small museum. The second floor contained the HUGE dining room where all meals are provided (included along with our rooms!) and where Len arranged for us to hold our fan gathering, about halfway down the length of the room on the right.

The concert was held in this semi-open (at the sides) yet covered pavilion just across a side street from Virginia House where we waited before it began; Peter K. took his place at the piano before Jackie appeared. Please excuse the relatively poor quality of the photos; this was at least the closest I'd ever been able to sit at a concert!

Finally, the main Event as Jackie takes the stage. I only took a single photo from my seat on the fifth row during the first set, but during intermission I noticed Connie (ClixPix) was sitting by herself in the third row with empty seats on both sides, so I quickly moved to claim one of them! (Remember that for some reason ALL those under the pavilion cover were the SAME PRICE, so I didn't feel I was taking advantage of anyone or anything.) From this closer seat I was able to get several, though they certainly aren't the quality of most others I've seen!

In the second half Jackie changed from the blue/gold gown to the red/gold one; these were somewhat incongruous with the outdoorsy setting and dressed-down musicians - not to mention us fans! Behind the pavilion there were people who sat picnic-style on the grass, usually atop blankets and with refreshments. The night was very warm but grew a bit cooler as it progressed; an intermission snack of blueberry pie w/ice cream was a welcome treat, even after the ample buffet that accompanied our fan gathering in the main dining hall!

Of course one of the highlights of this concert as with others in the Awakening tour was Jackie's performance of one of my very favorites, My Immortal, beginning with her solo piano work and moving to center stage; here Peter stands ready to take her place at the keyboard. My final photo was taken the next morning of our "digs" for the event, the 1850's Maryland House. The Shrinemont Episcopalian Retreat had begun in the nineteenth century as a health spa known as Orkney Springs and is a lovely facility with a history dating back to the Civil War when it was supposedly used as a rehabilitation center for wounded soldiers. My friend Mike and I shared a small room with twin beds; I was worried about the fact that there's NO air conditioning at Shrinemont, but it proved unfounded since the mountain air cools nicely! I actually missed Jackie's afternoon mike "test" when I decided to make use of the large and very cold swimming pool to cool off in the afternoon heat!
