Even the most die hard metal listener needs to cleanse the palate occasionally. The latest from Jackie Evancho does that and more. "Think Of Me" is a classic track from The Phantom Of The Opera, and Ms. Evancho stays true to the original, including the strong vocals she lends this track. "Your Love" follows the strong opening and builds the feels and direction of the disc nicely with a more tempered track that highlights her voice. "Take Me There" is a lighter track that borders on crossover, much like a cover track later in the sequencing. This song, while mild, adds depth to the collection. Another classic, "Ave Maria," is a perfect selection for Jackie, as it fits well within her abilities and offers a slightly different interpretation that most of us are accustomed to. "The Rains Of Castamere" is a good track that was new to me (as I don't partake in the madness that is Game Of Thrones). This song flexes the classical side of Evancho's vocals. "Vocalise" is a clever device that allows Jackie to demonstrate the strength and emotion in her vocal chords.
"Je T'aime" is a great piece that gives the disc its first foreign language track, but doesn't detract from the quality of the music or the vocals despite the language barrier. "Open Fields Of Grace" gives Jackie room to spread her wings a bit with a track that tests her lower register as well as letting her run at the higher end as well. "Memories" has a cool groove underneath that gets the foot tapping and shows that despite the operatic and classical tones and textures of Evancho's voice, she still has a 'cool' sound when allowed to stray from the path. "Dormi Jesu" is the other foreign track, and it benefits from the youthful yet strong tones in the vocals, as well as the mix of orchestration and Ms. Evancho. "With Or Without You" is a cool remake of the U2 classic that reflects the pop sensibility of Jackie's voice hidden underneath the operatic vibratto. This version is as enjoyable, even without the heavy guitars and rhythm section. Disc closer "Made To Dream" is the perfect way to end this collection, as it puts a fresh sound to a classic style.

A very favorable review of "Awakening" and a "thank you" to pinoyfan for bringing this to our attention: www.healthychristianmom.com/jackie-evancho-awakening-review/I remember 4 years ago. The whole city of Pittsburgh was glued to the TV watching the finals of America’s Got Talent. We were cheering for our own Jackie Envancho to win the whole thing. Although people from around the country were cheering for her, no place was cheering for her like her home town.
Four years later when Family Christian offered me her new CD, Awakening, in exchange for a review, I jumped at the opportunity. Although I received the CD, all opinions in this review are my own of course.
When I first pushed play, the house filled with the beautiful instrumental sounds of “Think of Me” from THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. It was beautiful and peaceful. I sat back in the chair, started sipping my chamomile tea when it happened. Exactly 45 seconds into the song Jackie’s voice filled the room. It actually gave me chills. This song is a classic and it was hard to fathom that this beautiful rendition was the voice of a 14-year old girl. Her voice is amazing. I could definitely hear how her voice has matured in the last couple of years. The song is a masterpiece but with her voice it is one of the best versions I have heard.
At that point, I knew I was in for a wonderful afternoon of music (and tea).
By the time I got to the third song, ” J’Taime” I was speechless. Her voice is an instrument and in this song we are able to hear the full range of her instrument. Of course her range is amazing but the raw emotion and feeling portrayed in her voice in this song was masterful. I have to say that this is my favorite selection on the CD. I listened to in 3 times straight before continuing through the CD.
Two notable tracks were “Ave Maria” and “With or Without You”. The idea that she could sing a hymn that is almost 200 years old and nail it. I love that song, it was performed at my wedding. A few tracks later she sings a cover of a U2 song and nail that also. I love that song also, I dance to it at my junior prom.
Jackie Evancho is a gifted and talented artist. Every track is great or masterful. The arrangements and selections were perfect for her voice.
I highly recommend Jackie Evancho’s Awakening CD to anyone who has a appreciation for classical music.
Thanks for stopping by!

Perhaps most people who buy music have 'average' tastes.
Or maybe the reviewer is exaggerating the merits of the album.
Nevertheless, everyone has an opinion and sometimes a good thing goes unnoticed by the world.
