This evening a concert was held in Washington, DC, our nations's capitol. The concert was held to pay tribute to Memorial Day. Memorial Day honors all Americans who died or were injured in wars the United States has been involved in. Thank goodness the concert is aired on our PBS stations and not our commercial networks. PBS is known for quality television. Although the concert began with Jessica Sanchez from last season's American Idol. She was chosen because she has two family members in the active military. She sang 'God Bless America' and I must say she sang very well. Candice Glover sang the 'Star Spangled Banner'. She was the winner of American Idol this season. From there on, the American audience was given a sample of real talent by classical crossover artists. I was both thrilled and shocked to see Alfie Boe sing 'Bring Him Home'. This was a delight for me because I am always thrilled to see him perform this song on my Les Miserable DVD. Chris Mann sang his hit song, 'Roads' and 'You Raise Me Up'. Ronan Tynan sang 'Mansions of the Lord' wonderfully. Katherine Jenkins sang 'Pie Jesu' and 'When you Walk Through a Storm' with her lovely voice. All branches of the US military are represented and a special tribute is given to all of our 'wounded warriors'. This was one of the most memorable Memorial Day concert I have seen and the one with the most 'class'.
