Copied this link from Jackie Evancho's "Jackie News" thread . www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/charts/yearendcharts/2011/classical-artistsNot only is Jackie No.1 on the Billboard Classical Album Artists Year End Charts for 2011 but several other cc-uk profiled artists also made the top 25: Il Volo is at No.2, Il Divo at No.3, The Canadian Tenors at No.6, David Garrett at No.8 and Alfie Boe at No.24

It isn't bad enough that Jon Caramanica slammed Jackie Evancho, the Orchestra and the attending performance crowd in NYC , to help keep Jackie away from the Grammy's, but here is CCU"s Moderators not supporting her hardly what so ever in Jackie's home court , so to speak. All I have to say is that Jackie deserves more than what she has been dealt !!!!!!!!

Robert, it is obvious that you are very passionate about Jackie Evancho but I am not sure how you got the impression from reading my post that I am not a Jackie supporter. All I did in that post was highlight the fact that, not only was Jackie Evancho No.1 on the Billboard Classical year end charts for 2011 (based on album sales), but that other artists profiled on the cc-uk site also made it to the top 25.
If you get a chance to read other posts that I have contributed to either this Forum or the previous cc-uk Forum, you will find that I became a passionate fan of classical-crossover music because of Jackie. And I do not hide the impact that Jackie has had on me in re-discovering a genre of music that I now absolutely love. I refer you to my "Introductions" post (Hello from Texas) and, directly under that, my (rather long and detailed) second post in the same thread. That post details my classical-crossover journey from October 2010 to October 2011 (copied over from the cc-uk Forum).
If it was not for my discovery of Jackie in August 2010, I would not have come across this site and, following that, learned of the many gifted artists who are profiled here. I enjoy and support many different classical-crossover artists, including Jackie.

Really confused by robkraft's response... ?
How does CCUK not support Jackie? We've supported her since the summer of 2009?

Hi Bob. Very interesting post. Assuming that Jackie Evancho stays at number 1 on the top of the Billboard list does then mean she is in line for an award for her category? Sorry if you think this is a dumb question but I'm still trying to get my head around this 'award system". I would appreciate you putting me on the 'straight and narrow' with regard to this. Stops me making a complete a-- of myself out of ignorance. Cheers.

Billboard is simply a company that amasses worldwide sales statistics for the music industry. They track major label album sales and other data (such as the number of times songs are played on radio, etc). They then subdivide the collected database into many different listings and publish the data on a weekly basis. There are no "Billboard awards" associated with this tracking service but an artist's label or management will use the results in their advertising should the artist's album place high in any of the listings.

The business of awards in the field of artistic endeavours is a very subjective decision making process. The decisions made will not please all ...... ever. It is unlike a sporting event where a score determines the winner or a boxing competition where the winner may be determined by knocking out of his opponent. The only time that it becomes cloudy in a sporting event is when subjectivity is introduced such as choosing the "MVP - Most Valuable Player". Events that are in the olympics that are more artistic in nature than a definitive sport having a score or time determine the absolute result are often the subject of controversy.
I do not envy those involved in making the decision regarding those to be awarded. I am very happy to be on the sidelines for that process and hopefully I can take the results gracefully without having a tantrum should I not be pleased.

Bob, Gordon, many thanks guys for clarifying all that for me. Yes, I do agree that not all results in whatever domain or field of endeavour do not always meet with 100% approval from their respective supporters. As pointed out the music industry in particular is fickle in many respects and competition results do not always reflect what the public and fans THINK should be a result. Many people believe that Jackie Evancho should have won the America's Got Talent competition. Maybe they are right, there will always be those that suspect voteing manipulation to give a desired result. We will never know. As it has turned out she didn't need to win AGT, again public opinion and support have catapulted her way passed everybody's wildest expectations and it's still growing. I guess we can all agree that it's all down to 'revenue', that seems to be, fairly or otherwise, what motivates the big companys. Doesn't money make the world go round? lol Thanks again guys.
