Epsom Downs is about five miles from my home, but Epsom has always been a place to be avoided on Derby day.
While Katherine is singing to Her Majesty, I will be making my way to the Royal Albert Hall to see Russell Watson and Natasha Marsh singing in the Queen's Jubilee Concert.

Britain is gearing up for four days of major celebrations as it prepares for a series of events to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.


The Epsom Derby

The racing festival will mark the start of the celebrations when the monarch arrives on Saturday. The Queen, who is herself an experienced horse breeder, will visit the paddock and speak to trainers and jockeys.

More than 200,000 people are expected to attend the event where Welsh mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins will sing the National Anthem and the Red Arrows will stage a spectacular display.

She wowed the crowds with a stunning trackside rendition of the National Anthem as she sang for the Queen at the Epsom Derby.

But Katherine Jenkins' performance was not the only talking point.

The Welsh songbird also made an impression because of her show-stopping dress. A blush-hued silk duchess affair by Suzanne Neville, it featured a plunging sweetheart neckline and train.

And she had another stunning outfit up her sleeve, rushing off shortly after singing to change.

Accompanied by her Dancing With the Stars partner Mark Ballas, Katherine stepped back out in a two-tone blue structured Roland Mouret dress.

An oversized, netted Philip Treacy hat adorned with large, blue feathers made sure that the songstress stood out.

Katherine teamed her fabulous frock with Jimmy Choo shoes and added a touch of sparkle with diamonds by Garrard.

Other celebrities who had turned up to join in the celebration included Mischa Barton, Jeremy Kyle and Donna Air.
