Jim got a nice encounter this morning. This was, without a doubt, the best concert I have ever been to. Not only was Jackie's voice even better than what I heard in Atlanta, which I didn't think was humanly possible, but the variety and the number of songs she sang was simply incredible. I am still at a loss for words...well, not really…read on. First, my wife and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner in a very fine dining restaurant. As we ate, I noticed that some of the staff had these rather big buttons that had Jackie’s picture from her DWM DVD/CD and the date of the concert. I just knew I had to have one, but how? First I approached one of the waitresses who said she couldn’t part with it because she collects them. Then one of the waiters came by and I asked him but he seemed to ignore my repeated requests. I then spoke to the manager when she came around our table about getting a button. She instantly came back with the waiter who removed his button and gave it to me, which had planned on doing before we left. Great staff, and a great restaurant. After completing diner, my wife and I left the hotel lobby and walked towards the Special Events Center. As we descended the stairs, I caught out my peripheral vision the approach of some kids and a lady behind us. As I turned around to see which way I needed to move to get out of their way, it dawned on me that it was Lisa Evancho, Jackie, holding a puppy, her older brother Jacob, and who I believe to be her manager, Marc Johnson. In tow were the dresses and shoes she would be wearing for the concert. Being completely dumbfounded at that very moment, all I could manage to get to come out of my mouth was as Jacob was passing me was “Hey, Hi there”. Really?! That’s all I could come up with for the whole group? Nice! That was definitely my spaz moment. However, it appeared that I would have a chance to redeem myself the next day. So, on to the concert we scurried, and once indoors, I placed a call to our very own Stephan (SG). A few minutes later we had the fortune of meeting Stephan “face-to-face”, at which time he introduced me to another gentleman who was another Jackie fan. I truly appreciated this moment to have met someone I had been corresponding with on-line, and I wish we could have joined everybody for dinner, but my wife and I had already set reservations at another restaurant where we had a “$50.00 Off” coupon which we couldn’t resist. We also ran into Ian from the Atlanta concert, and we immediately recognized each other, and chatted for a bit. Once inside the venue, I ran into Ian from the Atlanta concert, and we immediately recognized each other, and chatted for a bit. He also introduced me to one his friends who was wearing an awesome Jackie tie. As we found our seats, the orchestra played a nice piece of classical music. Then they started playing another song which I immediately recognized as “Lovers”. But wait, where’s Jackie? There was no Jackie on the stage. What the heck are they doing playing her song when she isn’t even on stage?! Then moments from when the first lyric is supposed to be sung, out pops Jackie in a beautiful pink dress, microphone in hand, hitting every note on key and in her typical “pitch-perfect” fashion. I truly wish I could remember in what sequence the songs were sung in, but by the time Jackie was half way through “Lovers”, I had already melted into the music like hot butter being poured onto freshly made popcorn. I believe the songs she sang were: WYWUAS, NF, OMBC, Imaginer, Lovers, Angel, OMF, AIAOY, TLP, Pie Jesu, The Impossible Dream, and Someday. But wait, there’s even more. In a simply “mind-blowing” move, Jacob Evancho surprised all of us by joining Jackie on stage where they proceeded to perform a duet together. They sang a Beatles cover of “Let It Be”, and they sounded absolutely fantastic together, as one would expect. At the end of the concert, Jacob apologized for not saying “Thank You” before he left the stage, and stated he was so nervous he forgot thank everyone. The thing is, he didn’t seem nervous at all, which I thought would have shown in his vocal performance, but it didn’t. After Jackie sang the third song in her set, she introduced a new ‘tenor’, Josh (Pit? For the life of me I cannot remember his last name), who appeared to be very young. I believe he sang three songs, basically splitting up Jackie’s set enough so she could have breaks throughout the concert. What a voice Josh has…he is, without a doubt, destined for greatness, much like Josh Groben. Then came the absolute defining moment of this concert which was when Jackie and Josh performed a duet of “The Prayer”. OMG!!! There truly are no words to describe that moment, but it resulted in the entire audience jumping to their feet and in unison applauding for I don’t how long, but it seemed like forever. This will go down in history as one of the greatest duets ever sung that I have seen “live”, and will be remembered in my mind as only comparable to Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli singing "Canto della terra" in Tuscany, Italy in 2007. As I stated at the beginning, this was the single best concert that I have ever attended. By the time the concert was over, I found myself to be emotionally exhausted. There was so much to take in, and some of the songs took me on an emotional journey I can’t begin to describe, with the pinnacle being “Nella Fantasia”, which drew me in and put me into a mental fetal position by the time the song was over. I could not have asked for anything more, but someone up there had something else in mind. The next morning, my wife decided not to hit the fitness center, rather we took showers and went downstairs for breakfast. As we exited the elevator and walked into lobby, there, over by the lobby doors was none other than Lisa, Jackie, Jacob and the puppy. Mrs. Evancho was talking to a mother and her children, so I was hesitant to approach them, and was feeling a bit “star-struck”. However, my wife pushed me over to them stating that there may never be a better opportunity to meet them. As I approached them, I listened to the conversation that the mother was having with Lisa E. and was absolutely fascinated with how forthcoming Lisa was about answering very specific and personal questions. She is one of the most humble, appreciative people I have ever met, and now I know where her kids got it from; from Mike and Lisa. Since 2010, I have always had a ton of respect for Lisa and how her an Mike had been managing to keep normalcy in their family lives, but after that brief encounter, I cannot give Lisa enough credit for balancing a very hectic life and for the sacrifices her and Mike are making to support their children’s dreams. What a great family! By the way, whatever I heard during that conversation, I am going to respectfully leave in that lobby, and I thank you in advance for understanding my position on this. And please note that it is mainly because I do not want to misquote anybody. However I can share with you that after I told Jacob that he did a great job singing last night, and that he didn’t seem nervous at all to me or to anyone else for that matter, I asked him what the name of Jackie’s puppy was. He said the puppy’s name is Maggie (assuming it is spelled correctly); a cute little Pomeranian. Once Lisa E. was done speaking with the mother and her kids, she turned to me and asked me if I wanted her to take my picture (with Jackie). Well, again being completely dumbfounded, I shook my head up and down. By then, I was a sweated mess from standing where the direct sunlight was shining through the tall lobby windows and was hitting me like a magnifying glass. So the picture turned out like I had a sun-burnt face and had just ran 5 miles. Oh yeah, and I forgot to take off my glasses. I think I am going to see if a Photo Shop can work some magic. Right after the photo and after I gave Jackie a high 5, they left and I assume went back to their suite to go pack, or something. The rest of the day was a complete blur! I don’t even remember driving back home. What a great weekend! Life is Good!
