L’Esperienza Magazine - CD Review
“OLIVE YOU”
Classic Italian Songs to Feed the Heart and the Soul: by Singer and Songwriter Micheal Castaldo.
A L’Esperienza Italian American Magazine Review by Benedetto, Professor/Photographer/Editor.
*****
An olive is a fruit. It is an important source of food and oil derived from the old world evergreen tree. And so Micheal Castaldo’s new CD, “Olive You,” is a source of enchanting music to feed the heart and soul. And like a sweet ripe fruit, the selected melodies on this unique CD, the taste bursts into your being craving for more.
In the very first selection, “Brucia La Terra,” (Parla Piu Piano- the Godfather movie theme) we are taken back to the scenic hills of Italy: where we can walk among the olive trees, smell their aroma, touch and taste the fruit and perhaps, like the stories main character, encounter our thunderstruck true love.
The songs included in this CD are: Brucia La Terra, Pray’r, Dancing to a Different Beat, Questo e’ Amore, Core’nGrato, En Aranjuez Con Tu Amour, Mio Cuore, Notte di Luce, Guarda Questa Terra, Con Te Partiro, Io Credo and Il Mondo.
***** Mr. Castaldo offers a bold variety of song types and thus forms an eclectic CD. Many of the songs are written, co written or just simply delivered in the Castaldo style. Micheal pays attention in detail to his own unique musical notations, compositions, cool dynamics, harmonies and rhythms.
This Editor personally enjoyed Brucia La Terra, Notte di Luce and En Aranjuez. Micheal Castaldo has performed “Notte di Luce” several times for us at our L’Esperienza Dinner Concerts. The key to this performance is in Micheal’s arrangement. In 2011 he performed the Godfather Theme Song for us at Hofstra University, but he did it in Sicilian adding to his unique delivery. In “En Aranjuez” he found a song that really penetrates to one’s soul.
Each listener will find something to play over and over again because “Olive You.” Copyright 2011.

I just received Micheal's new CD, Olive You. It is splendid! I have always loved the Godfather movie theme. Micheal's version is extremely romantic. Nottie di Luce is one of my favorite classical crossover songs. Micheal's version is wonderful. The songs I am not familiar with will become favorites. I have only played the album once, as I just received it in today's post, but I will be playing it again and again. Great voice, great song choices all lend to a CD to add to your collection!

Here I am again! Micheal has just posted a new video on YouTube, Il Mondo from his new CD, Olive You. It's amazing the way he can capture the flavor of Italy, incredible! The song is so fantastic. When it's released on Amazon on Jan. 31, I will give it a 5 star rating!

So many great new songs on this album. I really enjoy Pray'r. The high notes on Core'n Grato are the introduction, beautiful song. The creativity just is amazing. I love Micheal's dedication to his wife, very sentimental.

I urge Micheal to create a format for a PBS concert!

One song on Micheal's new CD, Olive You, stands out from the rest. It is Pray'r. Micheal has used his creative genius in lyrics, melody and of course, his wonderful voice to create the perfect classical crossover song that blends contemporary pop so beautifully. I am delighted the song has become available for download on Amazon.com. I believe Micheal has a mega billboard hit. And after reading the reviews of Pray'r which was just released, I can already see people's re-action to the song. It is the absolute breakthrough for Micheal, something every artist dreams of and after 20 years in the music industry, so richly deserved. But don't just let Pray'r be 'the one', every song on "Olive You' is a gem!
