"...After six years, NBC’s highest rated summer series was becoming a bit predictable, too plain vanilla. Despite its 15 million or so viewers, “AGT” began to lack edge, excitement and cultural relevance. With the exception of opera cutie Jackie Evancho and a few other noteworthy acts, there was simply little buzz left..."

note: don't like the tag opera cutie, these media are something. Wish they could use all the time ' Classical Crossover'.

Jackie's DWM album is #1 again now for the second week on Billboard's classical sales listing! Week of May 26, 2012: www.billboard.com/charts/billboard-200#/charts/classical-albumsAfter almost a year, this is great to see the album sales continue to show so well. I believe this is US only and does not, as discussed elsewhere, include the Christian outlet sales. As of yesterday, Amazon did not show the album in stock but was selling from its secondary sources. (Amazon contacted me via email wanting to know if I wanted to sell Jackie's OHN album back to them. Apparently that one continues to sell!)

Ok guys & gals from around the world, we need to massively support Katherine in DWTS to win. I know UK & Wales are flying their flags and very proud of The Welsh Wiggler. On behalf of American voters don't forget to vote especially the international fans! Not only putting Katherine in the spotlight, it's also put CLASSICAL CROSSOVER in the map where totally unheard or unknown in the states. Are we Jackie Fans in full support? KJ is a friend of Jackie, Go KJ go!!!! ...if she wins, she's the first International celeb to bring home the Mirror Ball Trophy; the first unknown in US to America's Sweetheart and so on...

PINE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A local community spoke out against proposed cuts within their school district.
At a school board meeting in the Pine-Richland School District, the public spoke out against proposed cuts to physical education, arts and music programs.Jackie Evancho, a former student who shot to fame after singing on “America’s Got Talent,” urged the school board not to make the cuts.
“My little sister is 8 years old and she will be coming here soon, in two years, and she is very looking forward to be taking these classes in music, art and gym,” she said. “She also wants to become a big star and to live her dream, but that can’t be possible if all of this is being cut away from the enjoyment that we have.”
People also stood against teacher furloughs.
“Young, ambitious teachers are the last resource that any school should cut from their budget,” a man said.
“Please be smart with our money and please don’t make the changes,” urged William, a young student.
The district released a statement: “Pine-Richland School District is trying to find a way to reduce expenditures in the least impactful way. Pine-Richland is experiencing what many districts have been experiencing nationwide for several years.
“While we’ve trimmed our budge over the past few years, we’ve been fortunate not to have to cut teaching positions up to this point. We will continue providing a strong academic program for our students.”
The board was expected to vote Monday night.

Applause filled the room Monday around midnight when the Pine-Richland School Board voted 5-4 to adopt a $66.8 million proposed final 2012-13 budget that preserves 9.5 teaching positions in music and other areas. However, it will take a 4.308 percent tax increase and the elimination of 5.5 physical education teaching positions to make the budget balance. The proposed budget will now be available for public review—the final vote for adoption of a budget and the setting of the millage rate is June 25. About 200-plus people filled Pine-Richland High School's auditorium Monday night to urge the board not to cut programs in music, art, family consumer science, elementary/advanced language arts, and physical education. Speakers included 12-year-old singing star Jackie Evancho and her father, Mike Evancho, who stressed the importance of physical education, music and the arts. Another local celebrity who addressed the board was NewsRadio 1020 KDKA's Larry Richert of Pine Township. He urged the board not to cut the physical education program, as he referred to a Newsweek article about obesity in children. Less than a week ago, the board's finance committee recommended a budget that called for a 3.2 percent tax increase and cuts that included 15 teaching positions. Treasurer Dennis Sundo, who chairs the finance committee, recommended restoring the $480,752 in cuts that affect music, art, family consumer science, and elementary/advanced language arts instruction. Voting in favor of the budget were Sundo, Katie Shogan, Laura Ohlund, Virginia Goebel, and Kevin Nigh. Voting against were President Stephen Hawbaker, Vice President Jeffrey Banyas, Peter Lyons and Therese Dawson. In a marathon meeting that ended at 12:35 a.m., the school board voted for a budget that has expenditures of $66,849,169 and total revenues of $66,376,549 and a fund balance utilization of $472,619. The proposed 4.308 percent tax increase would bring the millage rate to 22.8522. "Pine-Richland School District is trying to find a way to reduce expenditures with the least impact to students," Communications Director Rachel Hathhorn wrote in a statement released at the end of the meeting. "Pine-Richland is experiencing what many districts have been experiencing nationwide for several years. While we’ve trimmed our budget over the past few years, we’ve been fortunate not to have to cut teaching positions up to this point," Hathhorn continued. "We will continue providing a strong academic program for our students." link---> pine-richland.patch.com/articles/pr-school-board-votes-5-4-to-restore-music-and-other-programs-to-proposed-budget?ncid=newsltuspatc00000001#photo-10018807

Jordantimes.comAn angelic voiceby Jean-Claude Elias | Jun 02,2012 | 23:09 AMMAN — An angelic voice — this describes Jackie Evancho fairly well. The 12-year old sensation who shot to international stardom thanks the TV show America’s Got Talent (AGT) has released a CD titled “Dream With Me”. What is amazing is that once you start playing the disc you forget that a pre-teen young girl is singing; you are completely taken by the music and by the voice as surely as if the singer was 20 or 30. Crossover classical is growingly popular. It is sometimes referred to as popular classical. “Dream With Me” belongs to this category, and it perfectly suits Evancho. Fourteen superb melodies fly you on an enchanting 55-minute long musical trip on cloud number 9. The album went an to get gold certification after it reached the top spot on the Billboard’s US classical chart. If this commercial achievement does not impress you, the mere fact that legendary Barbara Streisand accepted to sing a marvellous duet (“Somewhere”) with Evancho on the album, as did Susan Boyle by the way (“A Mother’s Prayer”), should convince the sceptical in you that age does not matter when you have genuine talent and that this is truly a superlative album. Without shadow of doubt the young American phenomenon has a gift from God. Evancho possesses a high-pitched yet soft tone that is absolutely delightful. The articulation, the transitions, the breathing, the dynamics, she’s got them all alright. She has an exceptional, innate feeling for the music. She must also be credited for singing naturally, not trying to sound like an older person. She’s just herself. David Foster, the Canadian wizard who has produced this album, Evancho’s second to date, must have coached her particularly well, for the phrasing and the interpretation reflect astonishing maturity. Again, you’d listen to the album without preconception as to the age of the singer; it’s just pure pleasure. If I really have to find a less-than-perfect detail I would say the vibrato at the end of the lines is not in complete control yet, or that it’s just a little bit too much — it’s a personal opinion. But that’s if you want to be demanding, picky beyond reason. She only just turned 12 after all; she was born in April 2000. She was a mere 11 when she did the recording last year. Most of the tracks are covers of well-known songs and make an excellent choice. Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma” and “O Mio Babbino Caro” are arias taken from the opera repertoire. Ennio Morricone’s “Nella Fantasia” (my top favourite), Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel” and “All I Ask of You” from The Phantom of the Opera need no introduction. Other songs are written or co-written by David Foster. “To Believe” is written by Matthew Evancho, probably a relative of Jackie, though the album’s liner does not say. Is the recording absolutely pristine from the technical point view? Maybe not, but it is still on the very high end; excellent by any standard. Had the echo and reverberation effects been used more sparingly the vocals would have benefited from more clarity. But again, this is but a minor point. The sound will more than enchant your ears. Whatever she sings, the young prodigy does it very well. All songs on the disc sound good sung by her. They are arranged by Foster. The album is a fine example of crossover classical done smartly, with good taste. The easily flowing crescendo, the pitch control, the lack of useless emphasis, they all help Evancho come up with a truly professional, most lovely interpretation. I was first reluctant to buy the CD because, precisely, the singer comes from the AGT machine. “TV song contests are usually too artificial, too fabricated to my taste”, I was thinking. But then I remembered that Leona Lewis made it on the X Factor show, Susan Boyle on Britain’s Got Talent and Michael Grimm succeeded thanks to AGT. Not to mention megastars Abba and Céline Dion who many years ago also made their debut on a TV song competition, the Eurovision Song Contest for that matter. I’m glad I bought the disc. And yes, all of the 14 songs are good, and six are just great.
