'Blessed with love' Finnish singer finds voice in China STINA BJÖRKELL 2013/09/09

With the recent release of her first Chinese-language album in China, Finnish rising pop singer Saara Aalto is set to tug at the hearts of European and Chinese fans alike. Gbtimes talked to her earlier about her inspiration for her title song “Blessed with love”, rendered this time in Mandarin.
Having grown up in an environment filled with music, it comes as no surprise that the 26-year-old has won numerous music competitions and placed second in the national final to select a candidate to represent Finland in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest.
A special kind of bond
In May 2011, Saara released her debut album called Blessed With Love in English. She wrote the song Blessed With Love originally in English and had it later translated into Chinese. When she was asked to participate in the gbtimes' Santa Claus Season's Greetings song contest in 2011 to help Santa choose an official season's greetings song for next year, she didn't hesitate to submit the song, which by that time had been given the Chinese title Ai De Zhu Fu.
“I got a phone call from a man I was making some concerts with in spring 2011, Mr. Heikki Mäenpää. He knew that I was very interested in Asian music. I had also studied Japanese and Chinese and he called me in September or October and asked if I'd like to participate in this competition where they would take my song to China. He asked me if I had a song in Chinese and I said I actually happened to have one that has been translated into Chinese last spring. So I thought it was an excellent idea to go there with my Chinese song.”
With nine of the album's 13 songs performed in Mandarin, this recent release figures as the European artist's commitment to reach out to fan base in Asia. "I think it’s really interesting to see how Nordic and Chinese sounds come together." Finnish pop singer Saara Aalto
“I’m excited to see if Chinese people like my own songs translated into Chinese,” says Saara. To build excitement for the album ahead of the release, Saara made some songs available to her followers on the Chinese social media network Weibo. Most recently, the aspiring young singer performed at this year’s closing gala for the Shanghai International Film Festival in June.
Chinese is known to be a very difficult language for foreigners to learn. Luckily, Saara is as ambitious as she is talented. After studying Japanese for eight years she decided to add Chinese to her repertoire. She finds that her clear and high voice is well suited for singing in Chinese.
“I think that Chinese is a very challenging language in many ways. Of course there's the writing and you have to know all these characters and how to write them. […] In speaking the thing is that the Chinese have those tones – like how high or how low you have to speak. […] Actually I love it, because it reminds me of singing.”
“In Asia, they have such good female singers. Also, there is some kind of a similarity with my voice because I like to sing high – a little bit higher than we normally sing in Western countries. So I think Asian singers also sing a little bit higher, so I feel like there is some kind of similarity and I'd like to learn how they sing. I think it's very interesting.”

They have all made it to the final few weeks of the X Factor.
And Emily Middlemas and Saara Aalto turned up the glamour as they joined their fellow X Factor contestants at ITV's glamorous gala in London on Thursday.

A host of our favourite faces from TV have gathered together for this year’s ITV Gala and it was certainly a star-studded affair!
The event, held at London’s Palladium Theatre on Thursday 24 November, saw the crème de la crème of the telly world put their glad rags on to toast the most successful ITV shows of the year.
And they definitely made it a glamorous affair with some pretty striking outfits on display.
We love how “The X Factor” is really trying to make this theme gimmick of “Louis Loves” into something going into this upcoming weekend’s episode, given that for the most part, we’re largely convinced that this is just meant to be a rather-silly way for the show to throw in whatever songs that it wants to. Sure, we do think that Louis probably looked at many of them, given that a lot of them are right into his wheelhouse of being either very dramatic or extremely cheesy.
In addition to the Louis Loves songs, the contestants remaining are also going to be performing one song chosen themselves.
...
Saara Aalto – “The Winner Takes It All” (Louis Loves) and “Diamonds Are Forever / Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” (own choice) – We hope Saara at the very least makes it into the top 4, and there are challenges here. We don’t love Louis giving her an ABBA song that really does nothing for us, and we don’t know what the latter’s going to sound like.

Saara Aalto 1 February 2015 ·
"Canto Della Terra, this was my favourite song to sing with Mr. Bocelli. Originally sung by Sarah Brightman. One week from this amazing concert. <3
6 months ago I was watching Bocelli's videos from Youtube and I thought "If I get to sing with him some day, that will be the highlight of my career".. I started dreaming about it and wondered if there were ways to somehow contact him. Well I didn't have to, because they contacted me. That makes me wonder, how do dreams come true? Did the universe really hear me? I want to think so <3 I was so enthusiastic about it, the universe just couldn't ignore my dream. So people, LET'S DREAM!!!! Dream big, dream a lot!! <3

Live The X Factor 2016 week 8 live shows
By Isabel Mohan 26 NOVEMBER 2016 • 10:34PM On tonight's X Factor, the five remaining acts performed songs selected by Louis Walsh, along with their own choices
Honey G's performance was overshadowed by a mystery stage invasion, which some viewers are convinced was fake
The novelty rapper from "north weezy" is still bookies' favourite to leave the show tomorrow night
5 After Midnight and Saara Aalto were both hugely praised for their slick performances
The weirdest episode of X Factor ever...
Sometimes, not very much happens on X Factor - the acts sing predictable songs and the judges say predictable things. But tonight's show was fully mad. Not since Calvin Harris stormed the stage clutching a pineapple during a Jedward performance all those years ago has it all been so very bonkers. Stage invasions, Irish dancing, human mannequins... it had the lot. It seems that silly season has officially been declared open.
Saara showcases her diversity
Saara Aalto has rapidly gone from cheesy no-hoper to the most exciting act in the competition. Tonight, she showed that she's much more diverse than her rivals, by first performing a totes emoshe version of The Winner Takes It All (she can play the piano and everything...), and then camping it up, big style, for an overblown, showy and extremely entertaining rendition of Diamonds Are Forever and Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend.
Saara's powerful voice can tackle any genre; the only issue is getting enough people to vote for her when she lacks regional support. There's a real risk that she could be voted off tomorrow night, and it would be entirely undeserved.
8:19pm We will be SO ANRGY if Saara goes this weekend... ... instead of Honey G, that is. The Winner Takes It All could have been a bit of a pedestrian choice for Saara, but she managed to play the piano, sing beautifully AND balance a load of painful-looking metal on her head. Scandinavian people are so efficient. Can we keep her?
9:47pm Saara just went a bit Geri Halliwell Her Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend/Diamonds Are Forever mash-up was like something from a Spice Girls tour DVD.
But... we strongly believe that Saara has what it takes to be a bit of a gay icon (less than Lady Gaga, more than Lisa Scott-Lee) so this is exactly the kind of thing she should be doing.
If she's in the bottom two tomorrow, we're moving to Finland. But maybe when it warms up a bit.
Saara Aalto Louis Loves: ABBA, The Winner Takes It All Own choice: Shirley Bassey, Diamonds Are Forever / Marilyn Monroe, Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend
We're most looking forward to Saara doing ABBA (it'll be interesting to see if she makes it quirky or if it all goes a bit Eurovision) and 5 After Midnight doing their thoroughly modern medley. We're also curious to see if Emily Middlemas sticks to her word and does something a bit more upbeat. Toxic is, of course, about as upbeat as it gets, but we're sure she'll bring a mournful key and a ukulele into it somehow.
---- X Factor 2016 viewers have totally fallen in love with Saara Aalto Posted November 26, 2016 20:48 by Josh Darvill
Tonight was the live quarter finals and Saara nailed her latest live performance, singing ABBA's Winner Takes It All, a song chosen by Louis Walsh for Louis Loves week
It went down a storm with the judges, as Simon Cowell declared it her "moment", while viewers were calling for her to win.
