Aug 26th, 2011 - Omaha, NE - The Peter Kiewit Concert Hall in the Holland Center
I created this concert thread because it was missing from this site. Some texts in this thread are from the old CCUK site, which was closed at the end of 2011 due to it was too expensive to maintain.

The soprano prodigy comes to the acoustically acclaimed Holland Performing Arts Center on Friday, August 26 at 8:00 p.m. This opening concert for the 2011-2012 Omaha Performing Arts season is also in celebration of the fifth anniversary of the Holland Performing Arts Center. Evancho will sing a repertoire ranging from classical arias and pop classics to Oscar-winning tunes. The selections are from her recently released classical crossover album Dream With Me and her PBS special produced by the legendary David Foster. A contestant on the hit NBC talent show “America’s Got Talent” in 2010, Evancho catapulted into the quarter finals round when her unaffectedly pure performance of Puccini’s “O Mio Babbino Caro” handily won the show’s YouTube round. Evancho performed five times on the show over the summer, finishing in second place. Her astonishing classical crossover soprano performances marked the arrival of a major musical talent. A Pittsburgh native, Evancho first began singing on the cusp of her 8th birthday after experiencing “The Phantom of the Opera” on DVD. She launched her own YouTube channel and started vocal lessons a few months later. She performed at local talent shows, going on to high profile events, including singing the national anthem at Pittsburgh Pirates games. “We are thrilled to present Jackie Evancho as part of our 2011-2012 season. Being among the first on her tour, it is the perfect way to celebrate five years of performances at the Holland Center,” said Joan Squires, president of Omaha Performing Arts. Evancho’s first full-length album, Dream With Me, was released in June and is produced by Foster, who has worked with artists such as Celine Dion, Josh Groban, Michael Bublé, Beyoncé, Prince and Barbra Streisand. Evancho comes into her own with this album, which includes two extraordinary superstar duets showcasing the young vocalist performing with musical legend Barbra Streisand (singing “Somewhere” from WEST SIDE STORY) and international phenomenon Susan Boyle (singing “A Mother’s Prayer”). “We are incredibly proud of Jackie and thrilled at how fantastic her album turned out,” said Lisa and Michael Evancho, the singer’s parents. “Making her first studio album has been a wonderful and exciting experience for Jackie, helping her grow as an artist and learn about music from some of the masters in the field.” Attachment:Jackie Evancho Will Perform a Concert Celeb....pdf (107.33 KB)

The symphony was under the direction of Constantine Kitsopoulos, the guest conductor for this event for the familiar selections with the overtures to “Die Fledermaus” by Johann Straus, Rosini’s “The Barber of Seville,” Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro” and Strauss’ “The Blue Danube.” Jackie is the diminutive soprano with a colossal voice. She sang the haunting tune of “Lovers” from “House of Flying Daggers,” a selection by Xerxes, “The Lord’s Player,” “To Believe,” a Puccini selection, “When You Wish Upon a Star,” “A Time for Us,” “Angel,” “All I Ask of You” and “Pie Jesu” for her encore. To actually watch this child sing like a mature adult is amazing. Her gestures and interpretations of each selection range far beyond her age. Yes, she still needs to work on enunciation and breathing, but overall, that voice is fascinating coming out of one so young and small. Jackie completely charmed the audience with her childlike responses while she fluffed her dress as the audience applauded. Frequently, the audience was spellbound by the strength of her voice, which made some selections magical, especially when she sang “When You Wish Upon a Star” and “Pie Jesu.” These two child-oriented selections were what warmed the audience to this special celebration. Since being on “America’s Got Talent,” Jackie has also made a PBS special titled “Dream with Me,” as well as the same titled CD. She has also recorded a Christmas CD, “O Holy Night.” Most of the selections from this Omaha concert were also on these recordings. This singer has unlimited potential and I am anxiously waiting to see how her voice grows and matures. Listen to her now. Who knows? Jackie could be the Caruso of this century. This is a voice that everyone needs to know and watch in the future. – Reviewer Teri Davis can be reached at editorial@nonpareilonline.com Posted 17 December 2011 - 09:35 PM Quote from Jimjosh wrote: Sylvester wrote: Quote from Amazon: Quote from Phil's Forum: from FB Discussion Board( Topic: Omaha concert review): Barbara Chambers says: Carolyn Lane says: Barbara Chambers says: Barbara Chambers says: Barbara Chambers says: from FB: Annie Cupich Gillespie says:
