Some people carry the Christmas Spirit with them everywhere they go...no matter the time or season. Maybe Miss Evancho is one of those people.

Truly one of the most bizarre comments I've ever seen about Jackie was posted on her Instagram page today. It was by an OTT fan, hysterically demanding she respond to his claim that she appeared to be giving her fans the finger while being photographed during her visit to the Pennsylvania Macaroni Co. store on the Strip in Pittsburg. Hard to tell from the photo what she's doing with her left hand because of the blur. But if indeed she's flipping the bird at fans (so called) like that nut job ...... I applaud her ... enthusiastically. I very much doubt that's what she's doing. But if it is, I'll scream with laughter at her chutzpah and become an even bigger fan. NO WAY , the finger except for a butterfly to land on

Will you put in the good word for her there as a "wet dough twirler"?

One big reason why Jackie's music does not appeal in a big way to her generation may be that many, if not most of her peers have been musically lobotomized. Their empty cavities refilled with raucous, vulgar noisy trash. ie. rap, hip hop, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Beyonce etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.. Whenever I listen to Jackie singing Nella Fantasia I realize most her age can not possibly appreciate its beauty. In fact, I am certain most would be turned off by it. Our culture seems in headlong flight from what is true and beautiful, especially our young.
The other song that makes me wonder about it all is The Impossible Dream. Jackie sings it at nearly every concert. While she always dedicates it to her Mom and her role in Jackie's living what seems like an impossible dream, I wonder if it also describes more about Jackie and what motivates her to sing "beautiful" music whatever its genre. Study its lyrics below. I'd be interested in what you think about them. Just another song she likes to sing? More to it than that? Do you think that Jackie may be on a quest and mission to help change, even a little, the culture she's growing up in?
To dream the impossible dream To fight the unbeatable foe To bear with unbearable sorrow And to run where The brave dare not go To right the unrightable wrong And to love pure and chaste from afar To try when your arms are too weary To reach the unreachable star This is my quest To follow that star No matter how hopeless No matter how far To fight for the right Without question or pause To be willing to march, March into hell For that heavenly cause And I know If I'll only be true To this glorious quest That my heart Will lie peaceful and calm When I'm laid to my rest And the world will be Better for this That one man, scorned And covered with scars, Still strove with his last Ounce of courage To reach the unreachable, The unreachable, The unreachable star And I'll always dream The impossible dream Yes, and I'll reach The unreachable star The lyrics of the song are very poetic, which is something you see in the great song lyrics and melodies, unlike the ego and attitude of so many modern pop songs. Jackie gives us poetry and music for the heart.

Much of the lack of popularity may be cultural. In Australia/New Zealand, Asia and Europe at least, more classical and traditional forms of music seem to be more popular in comparison with North America. (My opinion, supported by readings of some classical forums). There are interesting articles (see google) on the possible rise of a musical monoculture there, where the top 1% of artists (or their handlers) acquire 99% of the marketing power, and then jelously guard that status qou. Not healthy for music, or for the culture that music reflects and serves.

Yes, true of those performers pulling down the mega-bucks which reflects their way-out-of proportion "marketing power". But, The United States and the UK especially have been for more than a century and remain the most musically prolific and creative places on earth in nearly all genres, especially jazz, pop, rock-n-roll, country and musical theatre. Jackie's coming concert in Cleveland, for instance, will happen just a few doors down from where Alan Freed, (Moondog) first broadcast and popularized rock n roll during its infancy. The first rock concert was held here in Cleveland. This town still sports many different venues for up and coming artists of all kinds. The line of fans waiting for tickets can circle a city block ... for groups and single artists I've never heard of, although my kids (millennials) and Jackie and those her age have ... and rave about. Not my cup o coffee. But in my extensive travels all over this Country and England over many years, I learned that that creative energy is alive and well in every part of them. Small towns, large ones and way off the beaten path villages, especially down south (USA). One of the most interesting streets artists around here (Cleveland) is a guy whose rigged a grand piano to a bicycle and pedals down to Tower Square now and again to serenade audiences who happen on him. While I'm down on the "musical monoculture" and its corruptive and corrosive influence on our culture and our youth, there remains a fairly healthy segment of the industry that while not producing and earning mega dollars, is producing music: some good; some not so good ... which is the way its always been. (i.e. only a couple dozen of the hundreds of songs the Gershwins wrote were worthy of being hits). It'll be very interesting to hear the new songs that Jackie will introduce during this coming concert season. I have a feeling, while they are not going to be mega hits that will make the mega-bucks, most of us who appreciate good music will like them and applaud the way Jackie performs them.

By the way ... robinb ... I just discovered Slim Dusty's, Waltzing Matilda and can't stop playing it, strumming along on geetar, and heartily belting the chorus. Best rendition I've ever heard of one of my all time favorite ballads. Now I'm hoping I've remembered correctly that you're an Aussie and not a Kiwi. If not, I know I'm probably in big trouble. The voice of Australian country. Have to toss in Slim's big hit from 1957. www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cKPchRDaVM

Gotta be strange to climb onto a plane from Pittsburg ... leaving her middle class, suburban world of Gibsonia behind .... and arrive and be swirled into one of ultimate glam, glitz, celebrity and applause. Then return a day later to that of ..... Gibsonia. Dreamlike and unreal, I think, to most of us ... ... and the next day go to school ...

This is “Peeps for Jackie”. An alternative thread where Jackie “fans” can express their positive thoughts and perspective about anything Jackie. For those who don’t think (and hope) Jackie is going to fall from a fan constructed pedestal … at any moment. Who see and hear more in and from her than just … “the voice”; as though her singing voice is somehow an entity disconnected from her person. For those who care about Jackie the person, as well as Jackie the performer.
For those who believe love is not “overrated”. That transcendence is reality and not mere “pixie dust”. That we humans are more than just “molecular dust”. In other words, for those who’ve matured into adulthood and able to think and write about Jackie beyond an infantile or adolescent level of intellectual development and skill …… this thread is for you.
Now, because I have a life other than this forum, I will make a contribution to this thread once a week or so. I know. I’m risking a pretty empty thread. Seems many visitors to this proboard have been shy about writing in the past. I’m hoping by starting a thread that is positively oriented towards Jackie rather than persistently and negatively critical, “the peeps” will begin to chirp. positively PEEP PEEP I am a puppet , for Jackie , o brother what BS is this , you MUST be positive not a adult who has matured but still in dream land , o brother , yikes !! we are not dust to dust , who knew ? , empty is correct because there are a small group of Jackie fans truth be told , same few over an over the hill , anyone posting does not have a life according to you , you remind people that in later years the mind goes back to childhood
