Prelude
as usual, I've captured my concert thoughts primarily for my own memories – and posted so that if others like, then so much the better..
apologies for any repeat of comments from previous concert postings.. if you manage to read through to the end, kindly PM me if you notice any glaring errors or misrepresentations..
Pre Concert
on May 30, the day/night of Jackie's Milwaukee concert, I was also celebrating the 1st anniversary of my 1st pilgrimage to Ringling.. as Jackie's concert started, it would have been almost exactly 1 year removed from when I was wrapping up my listening to Jackie's DWM concert on my iPad in The Courtyard at Ringling where TGDVDEM (The Greatest DVD Ever Made) was filmed.. I've returned to Ringling once since, and I expect repeated returns in the future – for me that is where it all started – seeing/hearing Jackie sing Nessun Dorma on her PBS Special about 3 years ago in 2011..
Fan Gathering
nice spot for the fan gathering.. got to meet many new and old fans.. we celebrated a young fan's birthday too.. Bill did a nice job organizing.. and goodness me! - I had been just kidding when I previously posted about being wary of the drawbridge between our fan gathering and the Pabst Theatre – but wouldn't you know it, it did get raised as we went to cross to the concert – a couple of fans were actually on the bridge when the traffic barriers were lowered.. luckily the bridge lifting mechanism waited until all pedestrians were off the bridge..
Venue - The Pabst Theatre
again, ran out of the popular Jackie buttons to hand out.. so rewarding to see the many happy faces of young (and older too) fans.. a real highlight – thanks Stephen..
Set List
same as Detroit with one exception – Reflection instead of Angel.. and I suspect this change was Jackie's doing, because she definitely had a message that she wanted to deliver in her introduction to the song – you go Jackie!! – make the world a better place with your vocals and just by being in it..!
1st set
Concert Thoughts
Jackie's Reflection introduction was very special.. to paraphrase Jackie, “I want to talk about Reflection.. whether you are a little girl, or a girl my age, or older than me, or anyone and everyone, you are special.. be yourself..”.. Jackie said it more eloquently, and with deep conviction, and with more words – this was not a quick sentence or two, a good minute or two of delivering a message that was clearly important to her.. it made me think that she likely chose this song this time (it was the one song difference from her last four concerts)..
the crowd, and especially one dear lady in the audience, was clearly in love with Jackie and voiced their thoughts at well chosen times during the concert.. “where are you going..?” was definitely a highlight in the evening – as Jackie exited the stage at one time, this comment from the lady got everyone happily laughing and Jackie too turned as she walked off, laughing with a huge smile on her face.. I can just imagine her telling her mom how happy she was about the concert at that moment..
“you're such a honey!”, “we love you” were also crowd favourites, with Jackie beaming her repeated replies of “I love you too!”..
I thanked the lady at concert end very much.. this lady had just the right friendly voice for her comments and such perfect timing delivery – I believe it was a definite factor in Jackie's obvious comfort level – the air was clearly thick with love – in both directions – with Jackie doing her part with her repeated “I love you too” and her dialed up performances.. I suggested to the lady that she should come to all of Jackie's concerts – she'd be a most welcome addition..
the “move over Celine” comment from another lady may have taken Jackie off guard for a moment – how does the little girl who seems to know just the right thing to say respond to that? - as it turns out, with a heart-melting smile and a pshaw-ahshucks wave of her arm – it was perfect..
Jackie sang My Heart Will Go On at the Memorial Day Concert in a magnificent manner fully appropriate for that occasion – for Milwaukee, she seemed to let loose her personal emotions, through her voice and heartfelt hand, arm, head, and body movements..
for her introduction to Music Of The Night, Jackie spoke about having watched the Phantom Of The Opera movie again very recently.. and how she loved it all over again..
the intimate theatre and relatively narrow stage seemed to propel Jackie to walk the stage maybe more than usual – and the same aspects of the theatre meant that she was never very far away from you.. she was obviously very happy and animated all night long – lots of flair and flourish.. I'm thinking that the setting and tactile warmth from the crowd must have made her feel like she was kind of singing for family..
at one time, Jackie spoke about how special it was having her brother Zach along for the concert trip, saying he was a challenge, or something like that, at times, but that she loved him very much.. my thoughts were: isn't being an imp at times part of a little brother's job description..? - Jackie really seems to know that, and accepts and welcomes it.. where does all that wisdom come from anyway..? - I'll tell you – it's in the Lisa and Mike DNA..!
Standing Ovations: Ombra Mai Fu, Reflection, The Lord's Prayer, Lovers, My Heart Will Go On, Imaginer, Can You Feel The Love Tonight, The Impossible Dream, O Mio Babbino Caro, Music Of The Night.. more and more thunderous as the evening wore on.. Jackie seemed to keep dialing it up notch after notch..
against my initial better judgement, I offered a rose to Jackie at the end of the concert.. a close friend gave me the rose earlier in the day to give to Jackie – he had something else to give to her.. from my front row (near center) seat, I may never have had another chance like that – so at concert end, when Jackie lent forward to take my friend's item, I instinctively reached forward with my rose.. without hesitation, Jackie reached for the flower and lightly accepted – I said “watch out for the thorns” - she smiled and said “ok” (I think that's what she said, I do know she smiled – .. thank you! thank you! thank you! Jackie! - for not hesitating and being so gracious.. and please forgive me Lisa and Mike if you'd rather me not to have done that.. such a special unforgettable moment.. I had carried that rose around all day – and silly me, I should have had it in water during the day, but didn't – so it was a little limp by concert end – but still a vivid red – a red rose for The Rose of Pittsburgh..
once again, no chance meeting – so I guess I'll just continue to cart around my most precious Meet and Greet photo (from Long Beach), on the remotest of possibilities, that one day, a brief glorious autograph encounter, may occur..
Jackie Evancho – the most wondrous of creations!
I've included a few photos below.. here's a link to a Photobucket slideshow of my Milwaukee concert photos:
