Hi everyone!
My name is Monica and I'm a 25 year old classical crossover soprano from Sydney Australia. I have a FREE download on my website, www.monicaoriel.com, and recently recorded the Andrea Bocelli/Celine Dion hit 'The Prayer' with Opera Australia lead tenor Stephen Smith which you can listen to here: .
I'd really LOVE to make the list on the Classical Crossover website, and I'd love for you all to vote for me, but first of all, here's some more about me...
I have recently returned to Australia after performing at the Coronation Festival in Buckingham Palace Gardens. The Coronation Festival celebrated the 60th anniversary of The Queen's Coronation, and was attended by held over 4 days. I sang over two days, including Royal Preview day, when the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall attended my performance. I was humbled to be the only Australian chosen to perform for the Festival, and the only classical singer to perform on Royal Preview Day, which was an extraordinary honour. Other musical performers for the Coronation Festival include Dame Kiri te Kanawa, Katherine Jenkins and Russell Watson. I was blown away by the response, with people lining up at the side of the stage after each of my performances! People were rushing down as soon as I started to see who was singing, I was asked several times if I WAS in fact Katherine Jenkins (despite being nearly 5'11 and Australian instead of 5'4 and Welsh!)
Earlier this year, I was the solo performer at the ANZAC Day Dawn Service in Hyde Park, London commemorating the 98th anniversary of the ANZAC landing. I sang the National Anthems of Australia, Great Britain and New Zealand (in both English and Maori) to thousands of people including members of the British Royal Family, and was a guest of the Australian High Commission. It was a really beautiful day, surrounded by Australian and New Zealand ex-pats in the middle of London, but the strong sense of community and reverence was an experience I will treasure.
I was honoured in 2012 as the performer of the Australian National Anthem at the Boxing Day Test match between Australia and Sri Lanka at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, with a crowd of over 60,000 at the venue, as well as being nationally and internationally broadcast on both television and radio.
Also in 2012, I performed with the international operatic group The Seven Sopranos, sold out my first solo concert in just 5 days, was interviewed on Australian national radio several times, and sang for Charity Gala Dinners for children’s cancer research. I have also been the soloist at St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney Christmas Eve masses twice, as well as a featured soloist in masses, concerts, and various Cathedral based performances. My youtube channel has been viewed in 72 different countries.
I'm so excited to be here and I can't wait to get to know you all better!
