We all have our own ID's when logging on to the forum, and I bet most of us use a similar ID to other sites we may use. And no doubt some of them are quite unpronounceable.
If you look under your 'Profile' you will see that you can specify a 'Display Name' . It is just a thought that it would be nice if everyone on the forum could use a 'real' name as opposed to, for example 'dfwtexan42' (sorry, whoever you are).
Just seems a lot more family like to me.

Great suggestion Gary. I am in full agreement. Sometimes I am not even sure if the person posting is male or female. We are indeed one big family here and we all have the same thing in common: our love of great music.

I am in favour of anything that adds to the friendliness of the forum, but I wouldn't want to make people feel uncomfortable if they don't want to reveal their identity. Also, if you use a photo as your avatar, then people can see what you look like as well. I must say that you are looking very attractive, Gary , yet strangely familiar . Edit:- At the time of writing this post, Gary's avatar bore a remarkable resemblance to Toni Gibson.

John, How does one do the avitar thing? I don't see where it asks for an avitar on this forum. I see where it asks for an avitar URL but don't know how this works.

John, How does one do the avitar thing? I don't see where it asks for an avitar on this forum. I see where it asks for an avitar URL but don't know how this works. I think the photo needs to be in an on-line location. Sites such as www.photobucket.com (there are others, but that's the one that I use) offer free hosting for personal photos. You need to create an account then you can upload images from your PC. You then need to go to "profile" from the menu bar at the top of this forum, then "modify profile". Scroll down until you see the "Avatar URL" box. Go back to your on-line photo and either copy the link from your web browser address bar, or right click on the image and choose "Copy image URL". Paste that link into the "Avatar URL" box. You also need to set the size of the image in the next two boxes, in proportion to the shape of the photo. I think mine is 80 wide by 100 high. When you have done all that, scroll right to the bottom of the page and click on the "modify profile" box to save your changes. You might need to experiment a bit before you get it right.

For anybody who wishes to use avatar from the old CCUK forum:
Log in to the old forum, click on [My Profile] tab in the upper area, then click on 'My Avatar' on the left side. Then right click the avatar picture and choose Copy Picture Location (or something similar, it depends on your browser). Now you have the link to your avatar in clipboard. Now use John's guide from the previous post to set the avatar link on this forum.

That would work for now, but I don't know if those image links will still be available when the old forum is taken down. Maybe Adam could tell us?

I must say that you are looking very attractive, Gary , yet strangely familiar . Thanks sweetie. I intend to change it once I find a decent non-embarrassing image John.

That would work for now, but I don't know if those image links will still be available when the old forum is taken down. Maybe Adam could tell us? I found that the link to my avatar is from classical-crossover.co.uk, so it means the old CCUK forum stored avatars. I now checked the new forum and you have right, my avatar picture is still loaded from classical-crossover.co.uk. It seems the new forum doesn't store avatars. So it is better to use my guide only to find and save your old avatar, if you wish to preserve it. Then upload it somewhere ... tinypic.com, imageshack.us, ... I don't know which service you prefer.

There is a web site that specifically allows you to not only store your avatar, but build them as well. I highly recommend and use this one: i36.tinypic.com/

Thank you!! Your instructions worked perfectly! jennyb, I'm glad to help you! Please read also my Reply #11 above, I hope you re-uploaded your avatar to some image hosting service. The old CCUK forum will be removed soon with all avatars on it.
