I've been working on my singing on my piano at home, testing my range, singing scales and I found out that my lowest note is G3 (Can sometimes hit an F3 too, but my G is better.) My highest comfortable note is G5 and I'm more comfortable singing in my middle range (Middle C onwards).
I can just sing Adah's solo, "Neath The Southern Moon" from Naughty Marietta and I can definitely sing The Song of the Brass Key from The Desert Song. I'll post another video of that when my nose clears up. And I'll also sing "Neath The Southern Moon." Both Adah and Clementina are mezzo-sopranos. But my singing teachers have told me I'm a soprano, except for the first one who said I was a mezzo. And I'm beginning to think she may be right and I may actually be a mezzo.
I know vocal range isn't an indicator of voice type, but I'm even out of tune trying to sing "Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life", or "Romance", or "The French Military Marching Song" never mind "Italian Street Song", for one thing. I definitely can't reach a high C.
My brother- who can play the violin- tells me I'm out of tune when I try to sing Margot, The Desert Song's female lead, who's a soprano. I'm better as Clementina than as Margot.
BTW, maybe I'm just a soprano with a limited range... I can also sing "Can't Help Lovin' That Man" from Show Boat.

-- Sounds like Mezzo soprano to me. A mezzo-soprano IS a soprano, sort of, so maybe that's what those teacher meant. I think you should wait until you're feeling better, really. In those recordings your voice sounds weak and upsupported - Possibly made worse if you have a cold?/stuffy nose? - Sounded like you were singing from your throat a bit. I think that's the main issue, The way you're breathing. You might want to do some ear training, too. - What I do is focus on nothing but the pitches in a song, I like listening to Hayley Westenra this way. (Do you have any of her music? Not that it matters, Just wondering She's my fav.) The wikipedia page for voice types is kind of an interesting read: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voice_typeJenny♥
