my thoughts from the notes I took while watching Jackie Evancho's great
performances Music of the Movies. First I need to give a shout out to the sponsers, Irene Diamond Fund and the Star Foundation. The second point is that i'm just the average joe watching the TV with no formal music training but a good appreciation of music played well. I've learned much from these forums but an expert i'm not. This is just my observations and opinions on how I a viewer saw the show.
edited note:I'm from Canada north and picked up the hd broadcast from 56.1 detroit PDTV. The only sound issues I personally had were two momentary freezes on the screen caused by lightning with the pixalated squares that show up on the tv screen from a storm between the transmitter and my receiver.I use shaw satelite dish.
The special opened with the shuttered projected light from a movie projector shining on the movie screen with Jackie sitting in the audience watching while wearing blue and white horizontal striped sweater, casual wear for a teen out to watch a movie.
This fades away as the voice of jackie starts singing 'Pure Imagination' from the movie willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Jackie fades in from the darkness, singing while standing on her soapbox,a large reel of movie film. The set was backdropped tastefully with three latice like columns partially covered with hanging silk cloth. On either side were two large blue curtains hung as a valance to frame the set with two chinese lantern style lights suspended from the ceiling, placed between the curtains and the stage.the whole stage is softly lit with different colored lights setting the ambiance.
In the first set Jackie was wearing a gauzy white ballgown with purple sequins and sparkles on a semi transparent overdress with a solid purple band around her waist .She wore her hair framed about her face loosely. At the end of the song Jackie reverts back to a twelve year old which the audience found endearing as she made a small giggle and then thanked the audience.
IMO I think jackie does this as a way to dispell nervousness. She then went on to give a bit about the History of the Orpheum theatre stating that this is where Judy Garland began her career before introducing the next song from the Lion King, Elton John's 'Can You Feel The Love Tonight'. jackie did a beautiful rendition of this accompanied by piano and supported by the orchestra which did an excellent job of supporting her without overpowering the song. Yes you could feel the love as jackie sang connecting with the audience.
For her third song Jackie introduced from the Broadway musical South Pacific the
song "Some Enchanted Evening". Hauntingly enchanting it's melody brings us back memories of years gone by of true romance. One can understand why the Queen of
England is in love with this song and requests it to be played.I do hope she gets to hear Jackie's rendition of her favourite song.
Jackie then introduced from the moovie Titanic, Celine Dion's iconic 'My Heart Will Go On Forever' accompanied by Caroline Campbell on violin.Jackie's rendition became a spellbinding hauntingly beautiful lament for love everlasting bringing tears to one's eyes with memories of lost loves from the past and hopes for the future. Her rendition reminds one of Jackie's power to emotionally connect and draw in the audience to her music overwhelming the listener to the sheer beauty of the melody.
What a fitting way to end the first set with a standing ovation from the audience. During the intermission interview Jackie wore an orange party dress with frills. The interveiwer asked about practice Jackie stated she practiced at home with help from her mother and that she did help in the selection of the songs. Jackie's favorites were Reflections and Music of the Night.
the pledge gifts were $75 for the CD discription is taken direct from dptv website.

THE SECOND SET
It started to the beautiful rich sounding melody of the trumpet solo by Jumaane Smith from the movie Summer Of '42,Jackie appears in a light blue gown singing 'The Summer Knows'. This was a well blended rendition of an instrument voice duet which brought out the best of both instruments. The tears flowed on that one as memories were revisited from long ago.Trumpets have a soul and Jackie brings out the best of it with her emotional musical melody.
This brings us to the first duet of the night as Jackie began singing 'I see The Light' from the movie Tangled. She was joined by a surprising new tenor , her older brother Jacob. IMHO I think they have solved the problem of duet partners for songs sort of like 'Donny and Marie Osmond'.The best part as we later learn is that they compliment each other in that Jackie likes to write songs and Jacob likes to compose melodies on a piano or keyboard. I have great expectations for the future of these two.Back to the show they harmonize spectactularly totally stunning the audience who gave a standing ovation. You could not only see but feel the love these two have for one and another when singing together.
Time for a costume change Jackie comes out in a beautiful black tux trimmed in pink and sings frrom the movie Cinema Paradiso the love song SE in Italian. Vivid images from the movie come to mind bring smiles to my face as I am sure many in the audience were tripped down memory lane.
Jackie then introduced her favorite song which started it all from Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's famous Phantom Of The Opera , 'Music Of The Night'. A song normally sung by a tenor as the phantom, the audience was enthralled totally spellbound ,mesmerized into the emotional rendition woven by Jackie as she raised the bar to a new higher level for this song.As others have said and I concur that Stunning, Sensational, Spectacular only words that aren't enough to convey the experience of hearing Jackie perform LIVE. What a fantastic way to end the second act.Makes one wonder how is she going to be able to top that in the third set of the show.
During intermission Jackie and Jacob are interviewed together. It is here we learn that Jacob composes pieces on the piano and that Jackie writes. They hope to colaberate in the future. We can only dream this comes true, I guess all that travelling with Jackie has paid off rubbing off on Jacob's shoulders,im not surprised. LOL I can see all the screaming girls now, Bieber look out you are about to be pushed aside.
THIRD SET
The third set opens with Jackie coming onstage wearing her pink sequined ball gown singing 'When I Fall In Love With You' originally sung by Doris Day but made famous by Celine Dion in the movie Sleepless In Seattle.Jackies emotional rendition draws the audience in to the memories of the movie and their moments of first falling in love.It is like watching a new rosebud first opening to the light of day.
This was followed by the song sung by Nicole Kidman in Moulan Rouge called 'Come What May' Jackie started the song and then was joined by Frazer, Victor and Clifton from the Tenors to form a quartet with Jackie holding her own singing the high melody with the tenors harmonizing with her. This magical moment brought the crowd to their feet and gave a glimpse of what to expect from the future.
Afterwards jackie thanked the conductor William Ross and the orchestra before
introducing the next song which she dedicated to her Mother for allowing her to follow her dream. from the Walt Disney movie Mulan Jackie sang a soulful rendition of Reflection. The emotional rendition portrayed all her love for her mother, from the deep rich low notes mesmerizing the audience straight her clear bell tones of the high notes. Jackie proved that she was and is "The Little Girl With The Big Voice"
