Kalafina (カラフィナ) is marketed in Japan as a Neo-Classical/Pop group. They are produced by the Japanese composer Yuki Kajiura, who has done soundtrack music for a few Japanese shows. Hikaru Masai, Keiko Kubota, and Wakana Ootaki
Some of their songs have pop, rock, dance, and world(mid.eastern & Celtic) influence. Their a fantastic group if you love to cross genres as much as they do! They have three albums: 1. After Eden (2011) --Their best album so far. "Eden" <-- I adore this song, personally. Skip to 1:54!! "Symphonia""Kugatsu / September"2. Seventh Heaven (2009) "Fairytale""Natsu No Ringo / Summer's apples""Oblivious"3. Red Moon (2010) "Intermezzo""Lacrimosa""Sapphire"Jenny♥

You have done it again, Jenny. I didn't have time to investigate the videos earlier in the week but something told me I would come back to your post. I did that today, with the result that Red Moon and After Eden are now on order.

Jenny, you have had me overdosing on Kalafina videos every spare moment (and some that shouldn't have been spare ) over the weekend. Not all of their songs appeal quite so much, but they are wonderful to watch. I think I am falling for Keiko and her lovely deep voice.

Some of their songs I didn't like at first so I started listening to them while I'm driving. Turns out it's very good driving music! Hahaa! I think Keiko is the most talented of the three (not that I don't like the other two!!). her voice is amazing and she really balances things! They're very good performers. I like just watching them sing! Jenny♥

I found this video where Keiko takes the lead throughout, with her previous group Fiction Junction.

The first of my Kalafina albums 'Red Moon' arrived today. I'm loving it! My only criticism is that the photos on the cover and booklet are a bit dark. Keiko's lovely face is lost in the shadows. BTW, I also ordered 'Seventh Heaven' during the week.

I'm glad they were such a bit hit for you, John! They shot up my last.fm artist chart very fast. They're now in 4th place with 709 listens! Jenny♥

I've been listening to 'After Eden' on and off for the past couple of days. I think it has the potential to surpass 'Red Moon' in my estimation, but it hasn't quite got there yet. Beautiful cover and booklet too.

Red Moon was my favorite at first, then After Eden kinda took over...
Here's an exciting thought: They have two singles that have come out this year, "To The Beginning" and "Moonfesta". Maybe there will be another album before 2012 is over!! It seems possible, doesn't it? Seventh Heaven- 2009 Red Moon- 2010 After Eden- 2011

This is one of Yuki Kajiura's website, the one that features her music projects: canta-per-me.net/ - There's also a list here of Yuki's vocalists. There are alot more than I remembered! KOKIA is also listed because she sang a few of Yuki's songs when she was starting out. On the font page, there were a few posts concerning Kalafina. At the top of the page there's also a clip of the "Moonfesta" video, which is their newest single release. Jenny♥

Thank you Jenny - will definitely watch this later. I saw from your last link that Kalafina are coming to Germany at the end of July for an Animagic festival; their first visit to Europe I think. Tempting, but I don't think I would have much interest in the rest of the event. BTW, have you checked your inbox lately?

Tempting, but I don't think I would have much interest in the rest of the event. Anime conventions are very... interesting events... specifically the cosplay contests. We have one here every spring called Naka-Con - Naka meaning "in the middle/center" as we're in the middle of the country. I used to enjoy anime when I was in school but I grew out of that years ago. I've gone to Naka-Con once when some Japanese rock band was visiting (I didn't go to that concert). I was looking forward to the Karaoke contest but I missed it!! They do usually have nice shops where you can buy non-anime related Japanese goods... Or I might be thinking of our local Japan Festival we have in the fall... I was very involved with that in high school when I was in that Taiko drum group. Anyway, I wish Kalafina would visit here but the good acts seem to always go to California (I can't blame them, really.) I'd go just for them if they were near enough. Jenny♥
