Becky opened "The Soldiers" concert in Horsham to the familiar tones of ‘You Raise Me Up’. I think Becky’s recording of this song is perhaps my favourite version but it didn’t stay too familiar for very long as Becky added her own touches to the performance, including a stunning vocalise section. She followed this with ‘The Water is Wide’, a song from her first album though you would hardly think it was the same singer. Becky’s voice has developed almost beyond recognition from her child singer days. The progression towards a richer deeper tone (as evidenced by her second album) has continued and Becky’s voice now is absolutely gorgeous. Becky’s third and final (sadly) number was ‘Sailor’ from her forthcoming album . This song was written specially for Becky and is a wonderful showcase for her newer voice. You can listen to it on YouTube, but hearing Becky sing it live was an amazing experience. The rest of the first half was taken up by a band led by a ukulele playing singer. They were okay but I would have much preferred more of Becky and less of them. I spent some time with Becky during the interval. Sadly (for her) I think I was probably the only person who had come specially to see her, but that’s not particularly surprising considering the lack of publicity for her appearance. Hopefully things will improve as she gains more recognition by appearing at other events. Her performances with Alfie Boe’s tour this week should boost her profile a little more. Alfie’s audiences can expect a different selection of songs from Becky as she will be accompanied by a live orchestra rather than recorded backing tracks. I believe she will also be duetting with Alfie for at least one number. Becky wouldn’t be drawn on a release date for her new album but hopefully we can look forward to it appearing some time this year. I will certainly be keeping a close watch for more news of that, and for any more live performances as they are announced. The Soldiers took to the stage for the whole second half of the concert and provided great entertainment. Much of their repertoire was drawn from 70s and 80s pop songs but there were a few more easy listening type songs and one very moving solo to the tune of ‘Ave Maria’.

Becky has a wonderful voice, like honey poured over whiskey and smoke. I MUST have the album when it comes out. Damn, she's good. Here are two videos that shows off her earthy voice.

Am I greedy? The three songs I heard from Becky last weekend were never going to be enough for me and left me wanting more, to the point where I was prepared to drive 100 miles each way to a concert and back in the same evening. Thus it was that I found myself in the vast Bournemouth International Centre auditorium for Alfie Boe's concert last night. For a last minute booking, I was lucky enough to get a really good seat; second row in one of the diagonal facing blocks at the corner of the stage. It was officially "restricted view" but all that meant was that I couldn't see when the artists entered from the back of the stage. I will tell you about Alfie in another thread but will concentrate on Becky here. She made three separate appearances through the concert. In the first half she sang 'Wishing you were somehow here again' and 'Sailor', looking fantastic in a dark blue dress and sounding just as gorgeous as I remembered from last week. She changed for the second half into a slinky full length silver dress, where her first appearance was for 'The water is wide'. Becky's final appearance was for a duet with Alfie to round off the concert (officially) with 'Come what may', which was just beautiful. I haven't had time to check through my photos from last night. If I find any worthwhile ones I will post them here. This was the last of the dates Becky has told us about so far but I am sure she is planning more, which I will pass on as soon as I hear about them. I would definitely recommend seeing Becky if you ever get the chance.

Love the concert reviews, John. <3 I'm seeing Alfie tomorrow, but Becky won't be there... I think Laura is back with Alfie tomorrow. I would be interested to hear what you think of her live, Nic. I would like to see Laura again but I don't think I would drive 200 miles for her. Meanwhile, here are some of my slightly less blurry photos of Becky from last night. First half:- Second half:- Finale:-
